Rooster/cockerel starting to crow- who’s used a ‘collar’?

I became attached to my Godzilla my sweet rooster. We are a no kill home here. Our hens are merely for eggs. The no crow collar in my opinion is cruel. I live in city limits & wasn't anticipating having a rooster as my local co op said all birds in the trough I were sexed. Well, the three were...

A good incubator for hatching my chicks!!!

Yes, I have to agree with you. I'm beginning to believe the dryer way is better. As I stated in an earlier post 30% to start then gradually increasing every few days is perfect. I never add extra water at any time & only when this alarm warns me that it's low. Below 30%. Even then it's only 1/4...

A good incubator for hatching my chicks!!!

Just my experience on incubators once I got one that wasn't defective. Spend a little more for what works. You still must always purchase a hydrometer just as a backup. I keep 2 on hand at all times. Not all incubators are 100% accurate & than can be very detrimental. Some hydrometers may be...

My Advice on a successful Silkie Hatch

I also don't go by the float tests ever! They're just not 100% accurate! I know that with 100% certainty because I nearly threw out 7 viable eggs that ended up hatching that appeared to be a dud when I did the float test & when candled they take up most of the egg & were dark chicks. I waited...

My Advice on a successful Silkie Hatch

You're welcome anytime. I just try giving folks the best thorugh advice I can so they don't lose a bunch of batches that could've been prevented by just a few important details like I did. Once you get it just right you will have a 90-100% hatch rate.

First time incubator - Day 1 for Silkie eggs

I've hatched out several batches of Silkie chicks & I use a forced air incubator which is a digital 48 capacity that has a removable auto turner. The readings in most incubators are never going to be accurate 100% especially this one so I find it an absolute must to purchase a good reputable...

Rooster/cockerel starting to crow- who’s used a ‘collar’?

Yes, I did forget to mention the flipping around & acting catatonic for several minutes & walking backwards. I refused to put the poor fellow through it. Godzilla was our son. He came into the house & even spent a few days in here with us. I was pretty upset with the neighbors. I get that I'm...

Rooster/cockerel starting to crow- who’s used a ‘collar’?

Honey do not waste your money. I've tried it & did numerous adjustments. If anything it lowers the decibels of the crow about 1/4. We even tried making our own. Several of them. He just ended up defying them. Then pretty soon it will just come off. I've also heard of some dying due to it being...

My Advice on a successful Silkie Hatch

I've incubated & hatched several breeds of chickens & have found the Silkies are the absolute hardest to get perfect. We have to remember they are almost half the size of a large or extra large egg so that means less humidity in the beginning. It's normal to fluctuate a few digits so up to 40%...
