Cattle do not have 'other rumens', they only have one. Their rumen doesn't actually begin to work until they are several weeks old i.e. they do not ruminate fully until around 3 months of age and are monogastrics until that point. The rumen only develops when calves begin consuming forage or...
The ease of movement really depends on your soil type. Ours is so hard it takes several hours to erect just 90' and requires a lot of leverage to get it back out again without damaging the pvc posts.
I had to send mine back. For some reason my goats would touch it and panic, instead of backing off they would try to go through it. It was pretty unpleasant, one was strangling and being repeatedly shocked until I could pull the plug. Also not very easy to install and certainly not portable...
Why not try the local English market (if there is one, I forget which part of the country you're in). Sure you might not get much for her (just because of the market, I think she's a nice filly and slow isn't always bad), but you might not take a loss like you would consigning her to a sale...
I don't think WC is telling you to let the horses rot where they are because they were bred irresponsibly. The gist I got was that if they can't get shot of them, chances are you won't be able to either. The market is awful and nobody is paying much for good horses much less those so badly...
Goats and chickens can get along so long as you take one thing into account; if a goat eats chicken feed you will have a vet bill at best, and be down a goat at worst. Goats can get themselves into some surprisingly small holes to eat anything they're not supposed to.

They charge double for Priority. Compare to other hatcheries/drop shippers. It's usually cheaper to go directly to the source, ie Meyer in this case.
If you want to sell any horse in this market it has to be more than 'vaguely decent'. Prices are so low it is quite possible to pick up a horse that may have sold for $5000 a few years ago for less than $2000 now. It is a buyer's market, as you should well know.
Maybe i'm cantankerous, but if...
Goats are far from fragile and I have found them to be profitable. As with any animal good management results in good figures at the end of the year. I've always found sheep to be 'looking for a place to die'. Goat meat is also considerably leaner.
Well I called our soon to be local feedstore/mill this afternoon and it looks like oats or an oat-based mix is the way to go. Whole oats are $312 a ton, compared to the $450ish for their sweet feed. I think we may do an oats/corn/alfalfa pellet mix as that will be suitable for all of our...
Has he been wormed? I had a bunny that 'stopped working'. He looked awful, he wouldn't eat and would barely move, he even slept on my bed one night without moving. He also had the mushy poop. The vet was bewildered and thought it might be hairballs. Finally one night he passed some...
Something important to remember about small scale farming: for the most part you're not going to actually 'save' money compared to buying food at a grocery store. The savings usually come in the form of how much an equivalent product would cost. For example, when you take into account the...
Anything small and quiet probably isn't going to take on a fox. Generally the better they are at predator protection, the better they'd be at killing chickens themselves.

Why on earth didn't the seller make sure they were bottle feeding before separating them from their mother?
she sayed they were doing good on the bottle i hope i dont lose her it will be really sad for me
Is she not wanting to suck, or spitting the teat out, or hard to catch?
