Bunny not eating, or pooping UPDATE, New rabbit saved from "dog food"

I gave bunny a couple doses of gas-x last night and bought timothy hay today and he is looking good eating like a "rabbit" (hog) not stretching out no teeth grinding and hopping around. Thank you all for your help ideas and support!!!!!

I'm glad he is doing better. I can't remember from earlier in the thread, but if he has a bottle of water, please put a bowl of water in with him.

He has had both but just has a bottle of water now, why? i will have to go fill the bowl back up now. lol

On this journey this last week he has had oatmeal, canned pumpkin, tea and honey, all to help his poor little bloated bunny belly, He looks much happier today not sure I am quite out of the woods yet, but I am very pleased so far with his will to live through that terrible tummy ache.

He will drink more if you give him a bowl, most likely. Don't take the bottle away if that is what he's used to. You want to make sure he's getting plenty of water. You don't want to risk him getting dehydrated as sick as he has been.

I have both my bunnies together, and they are both doing good, eating away mostly the hay, and some pellets here and there and today there is definatley no shortage of poo's so thats good I think lol Do you think he could have just been that used to eating hay? IDk but I will make sure I always have some on hand in case and so this never happens again (crossing fingers)

Has he been wormed? I had a bunny that 'stopped working'. He looked awful, he wouldn't eat and would barely move, he even slept on my bed one night without moving. He also had the mushy poop. The vet was bewildered and thought it might be hairballs. Finally one night he passed some hookworms, which he probably caught from the guinea pigs he was kept with in the pet store. The vet had me feed him baby food with a syringe and worm him every day for five days (since they eat their own poop and reinfest themselves). He made a full recovery and I had him for four more years until the neighbor's dog tore his hutch apart

Stopping eating can do that to any herbivore. I've had it happen with goat kids at weaning time, the rabbit, and it happens to horses. GI stasis can really mess them up. The key is to get something into them to kick start their digestive system. My goats favour elm leaves when they're feeling unwell.

Glad to hear your bun looks to be on the mend. Rabbits should have hay available all the time as well as pellets. The hay is essential not only for the fiber for their gut, but also for their teeth. Some will eat more pellets than hay and some the other way around, just depends on the rabbit. Some feed stores will sell a flake of hay instead of an entire bale. The pet store bagged hay is fine just overpriced. Just be sure you are getting a grass hay like timothy or orchard or oat not alfalfa.

No he is not wormed. Is there a wormer available I could buy? Name? He is doing great now, hoping eating and happy. I have another rescue I am working on now, I put that in another post last night when I got him home. He was NOT doing good at all, but he also is coming around, although last night I really didn't think he had a chance I just didn't want him to die alone and cold. I bought him for 75 Cents.

Here is the link if you are interested.

Right now he has, pellets, Timothy hay, timothy pellets(doesn't like them), straw(for bedding and playing), a carrot, fresh water, and a friend.
