My hen has a open leg wound-no idea what happened. It smells infected. I tried everything to no avail. Antibiotic ointment, cleaning with hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, wrapping, not wrapping. It almost looks like a tumor ? We do not have any vets that treat poultry in my area.
Please, any...
I live in the city where you would not think hawks would reside. For the first 8 years that I raised a small flock, I never lost one to a hawk or even saw a hawk. For some reason, the last 2 years, we have been overwhelmed with hawks. I used to let my flock free-range and at night they would...
I have a small hen that did the same thing. She walked fine until she was a month old. She started limping, then lost all use of her legs. I have researched a bit and found she might have Marek's disease. She is isolated from the rest of my flock. I hand feed and water her. Her appetite is...
I am having trouble with an abudance of hawks and I live in the city. I had a hawk swoop down and almost take off my favorite Serama hen. I was doing some yard work and he swooped just feet away from me. I scared him off just in time. I thought I would have a heart attack. He was totally...
Thank you so much for your reply. You said "don't give up hope". That is my roosters name. We thought he was a hen and named him Hope. Due to his paralysis when he was 3 months old, I named him Hope because there always is hope. I still don't know what happened to him. He lost use of his legs...
Thanks for your reply. His eye is less swollen today, however, it is oozing. I am afraid he has lost his eye. His appetite is good and he is eating his favorite treat, watermellon.
Keep us in your prayers. God loves chickens too.
Thanks. He is eating and drinking. The swelling of his eye is terrible, much worse than yesterday when the attack occured. I am giving him some antibiotics to try to ward off infection along with the eye ointment. I have no doubt he will lose the sight in that eye.
I will keep you informed...
Josh, what is la200 and where do I get it??
I failed to mention he was attacked by my Nazi hen, Isabelle, she just hates him, I guess due to his handicapped condition.
Thanks for your reply
I have a "special" need rooster. When he was 3 months old he lost complete use of his legs. After intensive home care, about 4 months later he started standing, then walking. He still has a limp, but was doing good. He is by far my favorite. I let him out yesterday and for just a few minutes...
Where do you find "Rooster Booster"?
Hope is breaking my heart, but she is putting up one fight !
If you find out anything else, please let me know. I'm not giving up. Strange, all my others are doing fine. Good luckwith your Roo.
I have a similar dilema with a 12 week old chick. She was fine one day, started limping the next and now has lost total use of both of her legs. She seems to have spasms in her legs and they draw and jerk. Then they just sprawl out in front of her. I have been giving her teramycin...
