Thank you. I'm searching for a better flashlight and not having luck...and, I'm resolved to just let it be until at least tomorrow evening either way. There was for certain movement when I floated it so there is 100% a chick in there. I'm hoping she just pips and zips. Time will tell!
Well, float tests are for both actually. When you're checking an egg to see if it's good to eat you can float in ice cold water...when you're checking for movement in a chick egg from the incubator you float in 100 degree water to see if it has a viable air sac and if there is movement in the...
I did it quickly and immediately dried the egg!!! I hope it's ok!!! I saw at least a dozen 'dark egg' videos that said to float it and see if it moves on its own..dang it...
I've had 3 roosters in my chicken tenure. I only had one that was a pain but he was super cool looking so we dealt. He was a bantam so I'm thinking he acted out because he was compensating for his size (he was tiny tiny like 1lb maybe 2lbs at full grown)...The bigger rooster we had many years...
I'm also going to scour our house for a stronger flashlight now that I know for sure she's alive in there. Maybe I can get a glimpse inside ... fingers crossed!
Thank you!!! I was up nearly all night researching what to do, which I think is the only reason she had a fighting chance. Thank you for your help!!! I'm so happy she made it!!!
So, this has happened to us chicken folk all too often, unfortunately. While I'm not positive this is the case with ducks I'd imagine it to be so: When my chickens are taken they almost always (really, always) leave a plume of feathers in the area of attack. I'd go out tomorrow and see if you...
Ok, so I posted yesterday about a low pipper who successfully hatched (phew). So 2 down and 1 to go...I have just the 3rd egg left in the incubator. We are at Day 21 almost to the hour, heading into the beginning of Day 22.
The last egg is very thick. I haven't been able to successfully candle...
So, I intervened somewhat. Zipped the shell and removed some of the outer membrane. Saw a small area of blood and the veins are pretty full. I waiting as looking as possible to continue helping. In youre collective experience if I leave this chick alone, assuming she can absorb the yolk etc...
The other just hatched! Im waiting until she gets fluffed and im going to intervene. The low pip is still active inside but not much movement in the shell. Does that make any sense? Still no movement on the third egg (which has now been knocked over by my baby chick)
Hi, I'm incubating for the first time. 2 of my 3 surviving eggs pipped. One pipped really low. She popped through between noon and 1pm today: Monday June 8th. How long should i wait before giving her a hand? Shes breathing and responds to light. Her membrane seems harder than it should be. I'm...
Roo is doing about 30-40% better today. I checked this morning when bringing fresh water and he's standing on his own, neck still drooping but at least he's upright and it's raising much higher than yesterday!!! I'm relieved...he seems like he'll pull through. I'm headed out with some hard...
Super duper!!! I am slightly better than novice in the handyman department. The second or third one seems perfect for the setup we currently have. I can use the motor and pulley already attached to the door and just include the auto locks!! Thank you very much!
Last night a predator got into our coop. Either the auto door didn't close (it's supposed to have a red light warning if the battery is low, warning is not 'sounding'), or it was pried open (which I can see as being very easy for a raccoon or fox to do with little issue, as it's a rope and...
Help!! Woke this morning to discover the auto door on my coop didn't close, or was pried open by a fox (or two) :( We lost 4 birds and luckily 4 survived but our Rooster is not doing so well at all. He's less than a year old Freedom Ranger, but fully grown or close to it...and up until this...
