If you turn your chick so you can see the vent, LOOK don't insert anything just LOOK! If the vent is round it's a male, if it's oval it's female. Doesnt matter the breed. I wonder if it's true.
Mine wouldn't eat from that type feeder either, I switched to a different feeder and put One of the bigger chicks close it began to eat and the others joined in. Maybe that would help?
