I found a roo for them recently so I'll have babies in the next couple months as well. Swapping chicks to change up the lineage sounds like a great idea
Oh no of course not. Every species has at least one male counterpart. My ducks and geese have already pair bonded im pretty sure.
Also I've read everywhere that cemanis aren't broody at all, and I'm starting to believe that. NONE of my chickens have shown any interest in nesting or laying...
Well we do have predators such as dogs and coyotes and raccoons, but we've never had a problem. I have a VERY protective goose that has tried to fight any other animal that comes close and that usually scares them off. I also have a few Ayam Cemani roosters that from a distance Hawks confuse as...
Well I was planning on taking them as soon as they hatch.
I have Ayam Cemanis and Rosecomb Bantams, which I read aren't broody at all most of the time.
My ducks and geese are together with my guineas and they seem very happy. They always lay together in pairs with the guineas surrounding them
So sorry about the quail. I feel lucky because I haven't lost any birds from this batch except for giving away my two turkeys. Even then I had a male and a female turkey.
I was super excited when I knew for sure about all of my birds genders because the first batch of chicks I ever got on my...
When I introduced my younger ducks to my slightly older ducks (only a few weeks difference and both juveniles), there was a lot of nipping at first. I put them right beside eachother with a barrier between so they could see eachother but not touch, and at least once a day every day I'd take all...
Provide lots of shade for them and possibly add a fan. Something I like to do is take some pots or zip lock bags to fill with ice then put them in there for the chickens to lay on.
Another thing I've found that helps is I take plain yogurt, place it in ice trays, stuff some mealworms in there...
So I bought all of my birds from straight runs because they are cheaper that way. I have 9 chickens, 2 ducks, 2 geese, and 6 guineas. My chickens ended up as 7 hens and 2 roos!(1 roo was bought specifically to be a roo and one came from a straight run). My ducks ended up to be a male and a...
Thank you for sharing. I totally agree with you. Sometimes we are just not okay, and thats completely okay! Even though asking for help is scary, sometimes its necessary to help you towards recovery
So I have 7 chicken hens, at least 3 female guineas, a female khaki campbell duck, and a female goose. Ive read that thus breed of goose is an excellent egg layer and mother, and ive also read that guineas and this breed of chicken are horrible mothers. I was wondering if I wanted to hatch any...
So I have 6 guineas who I've recently released into the yard. Theyre 10 weeks old and since they were released 2 at a time, the obviously started roosting close to where the brooder is, which is about 5 feet from the stairs to my porch. Now 4 of the guineas are out and they have taken to...
I agree, and people who are raised with this mindset think its weak or wrong to seek help. I think if we try reaching people on more platforms, such as here on a chicken site, then people won't feel so alone and know that its okay to ask for help
Thanks for the reference pics! Both of my ducks are rather dark like the last one, but not so much. I'll take more pictures when they're more dried off
