Where to buy incubator NR 360

It sounds like the Harris Nature Right 360 incubator is most recommended. Unfortunately it is very pricey in Canada. Does anyone have advice on how I can get one for less than $300!

    Egg layer strike

My 5 chickens, Wyandottes and Americaunas and a bantam Brahma, all stopped laying early this September. The Americaunas and one silver laces laid the latest - but now have stopped too. Only one has last feathers and is likely moulting but not the others. Unless they have a stash somewhere I...

Two of 5 laying... 0/5 using boxes

So, my girls are taking their time with the egg laying and nesting routine. My Silver laced Wyandotte has been laying for a few weeks - but directly under our nesting boxes. I’m wondering if we should close that area off? I caught my Brahma laying a tiny egg a week ago, and have seen a few here...

    Egg hunt

So I’m finding eggs all over the place now that at least one of my chickens has started laying (how I’ll ever figure out who it is is beyond me...). I’ve got four nice nesting boxes, and they have golf balls... will the chickens just figure out that they’re the place to lay eventually? Do I move...

Wyandotte, Delaware and Brahma late layers?

I’m obviously excited about my first eggs. I am hoping any day now. I think the age of my chicks is about 22/23 weeks. For these breeds should I be getting excited?

Chasing chickens - want them to learn to come to me

So I didn’t spend enough time training my chickens to let me hold them I guess, because whenever one escapes our run - it’s like a gong show trying to get them to not run away from me. What do I do to train them. Will then come to you if trained to? Normally as soon as they see me they run over...

If it looks and sounds like a rooster....

So we thought we had two silver laced Wyandotte pullets, but today at 22 weeks, “Helga” crowed. Helga has also recently developed big tail feathers. Am I right to call her a rooster! and if she is, are there any adjustments to make to my management of the chickens? They’re all pullets otherwise...

    Nesting box design feedback

We built these nesting boxes and hope they suit our girls! I’ve added shavings with golf balls and a bit of dried lavender (I know... but I couldn’t resist). My question is - the opening seems a bit narrow. Will chickens just squeeze in? Or do they need a huge entry?

    The word on DE

Ok, so being new to backyard chicken keeping, I have come across tinned of info on DE that is contradictory. So you’re my go to BYC community. Q1.Should I sprinkle my coop with DE to prevent any insect pest issues? If yes, should I still if I am using the deep litter method? Q2. Should I mix...

    Respiratory Illness in Wyandotte

My 12 week old golden Wyandotte (in a flock of 6 birds), is the only bird showing signs of an infection: one foamy clogged eye, wheezy sounds... I’ve separated her and cleaned out all our bedding hoping the others don’t get it if they haven’t already. What else can I do for her while separated...

Teen temperature - when can they go outside?

My chickens are about 10-12 weeks old and seem to have lots of feathers. It’s less than 10 degrees for a daytime high this week (is that around 40F)? can I let them out for an hour or so to run around? Or should I wait for double digits (over 10 - so 50Fish?

    Bullying?

The pullets have been picking at a golden Brahma (surprising as she is by the largest) and when she sits/rests her back is very bare in one side. Can I somehow deter them from picking at her or just let her defend herself for a few days?

    12 hours in...

I picked my chickens up yesterday from a farm in Quebec. Two golden laced, and two silver laced Wyandotte’s, a golden Brahma and a white Delaware. I think they’re about 9 or 10 weeks. our goal is for eggs and if things are not manageable, we plan to eat the chickens before the winter...most...

    Teen chicks

I brought home six 10 week olds yesterday. I have them in my boiler room in a large dog crate with pine bedding a low roost etc. Could you all give me tips on keeping them clean and happy in my set up. It’s cold outside here in Eastern Ontario is they’re not going outside anytime soon.... First...
