    Sage in their diet

Quick question? We're curious if anyone feeds their flock Sage? We have tons of it and just wondering if it's ok for them to have?

9 week olds not roosting at night, possible scald

Hey y'all. Update on the roosting problem at night. I blocked my nesting boxes off to keep them from sleeping in there, and then they started huddling up together. I just let it go and then one miraculous night, one of the girls roosted all night and now they all roost all night. Hope y'alls...

How old before your Roo started crowing and showing spurs

That's what my girls look like. Over the years, we've just never owned a Rooster because they don't lay eggs :) Thanks for sharing.

How old before your Roo started crowing and showing spurs

You probably just answered one of mine in question. We also have Black Australorps, and sounds like only a week or so behind yours, and the comb and wattle are nowhere near what yours are showing, in redness and size. All of ours, even the Lavender have been very quiet.

How old before your Roo started crowing and showing spurs

Was just curious about how old some of y'alls Roosters were before they started Crowing and showing signs of spurs? I ask because we are trying to determine the sex of 2 of our flock. I've posted pics on another local site, and MAN..... we hear both. When we got them, they were sold as pullets...

9 week olds not roosting at night, possible scald

Glad somebody posted about this. I've never had problems in the past until this new flock. Looks like I'll be getting in with them at night and placing them on the roost. Fingers crossed it takes, and not become a battle . Cluck in Y'all 🐓

    Sleeping in the nesting box

I will go and take care of that now, but we are located in SW Virginia, at the bottom of the BlueRidge Mountains. Our climate is generally very tolerable all year.

    Sleeping in the nesting box

This is a whole new flock, and they're almost 10 weeks old. I'll post some pics sometime soon..... once we're done with all this rain we're getting hammered with. I'll also block k off the nesting boxes. Thanks.

    Sleeping in the nesting box

Ok..... so we've had chickens in the past, but our new girls will not roost during the night. They want to huddle up in the nesting boxes instead. Havent had this problem in the past. They have a great roosting pole over a poop tray and even have steps to make it easier for them to reach it. My...

    Dominance Time

    Dominance Time

No questions, just wanted to share a little something. So while I was outside this morning having my eleventeenth cup of coffee and watching my girls in the run, I noticed they've reached the age of dominance. Who's the big girl on the block so to say? Its actually kinda comical to watch the...

Wondering if I've got a golden comet cockerel

I agree that it's a bit early to tell for sure, but we had Golden Comets one time, and they are some egg laying machines!!! Enjoy your new flock.

Coop build from a purchased plan.... so worth it!!!

"Morgan Creek Plans". Super easy build as detailed as the plans are. You only have to choose the type of siding you wanna use.

Coop build from a purchased plan.... so worth it!!!

We're pretty for I agree 100%..... we're actually going to put windows in, but no one has this size in stock, and I'll definitely switch it out as we're building the run now and gonna use 1/2" hardware cloth. Thanks for me mentioning that.

Coop build from a purchased plan.... so worth it!!!

So..... we took a couple years break from chickens, but realized how much we missed them. That being said, we decided to build a new coop and run. I told my most wonderful wife "I got it baby"! Well that didnt float, bc she had a different vision in mind this time around. So she hit the internet...

That really stinks about your flock, but at least you had a survivor. I'm sure everybody has a favorite for different reasons, but we use to have Golden Comets bc we mainly were after the fresh eggs, and man did those hens lay. We had 10 and were getting dozens of eggs every week. We just...

We're not new to raising chickens, we did however take a break for a couple of years, but missed all the wonderful benefits of having them. We mainly have them for the fresh eggs, and also to teach our son a good work ethic and how to take care of things. We recently picked up 6 Black...
