Broody Hen Question - Will my Eggs Hatch?

HI all, I have a broody barred rock. She had sat on her eggs for 7 days, but our other chickens kept kicking her out of her nest to lay eggs. She would get right back on after they left, becuase of this we put her in her own small coop and run with some fresh eggs. The eggs were laid today but...

    Hatched Chick - Prolapse?

We just hatched our first chicks. We are not new to raising chicks, but hatching them we are brand new. Our chick seems to have a prolapse? (maybe?) Some shell was stuck by a tiny thread and it has come off. It does seem to be a little bloody. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

    What Breed Are My Chickens?

Honestly kinda sad if they are sex linked, we were hoping we could get some of these traits in future chicks!

    What Breed Are My Chickens?

A few are all white, and a few have little speckles of that darker color. I know they are all the same breed as my father in law got chicks from this gentleman, who we then purchased the adult birds from as he didn't want them anymore. Chicken math is real, started with 5 two years ago, and now...

    What Breed Are My Chickens?

Hi all. I got these chickens yesterday and am wondering the breed? They are very docile and quiet birds. Their eggs are dark brown, similar to my cuckoo marans. Thanks!

Sadly we cannot catch her. We are just going to have to wait until she goes into the coop for the night.

Hi all, just found my young (hatched first week of April) hen looking like this. Is this a prolapsed vent? If so, is it best to cull?

Yeah, this is kind of what we were thinking of doing. Maybe just starting a new flock with tractors instead of free range

    Help!!! Can't find eggs!

We don't have a run, and while we could do a coop a lot of the birds don't even go into a coop at night, they hang out with the sheep in the loft of their shelter.

    Help!!! Can't find eggs!

Hi all, we have 18 hens (15 of which are young, but should be laying at this point, hatched first week of April. Barred Rocks, Buff Orpington, and Easter Eggers) For a while we were getting 4 eggs from the young ones laid in a hay loft where most of our chickens were laying, a few laying in the...

    Breed? Pullet or Cockerel

HI all! I have two young chicks I am trying to figure out breed / if they are both roosters. Henry (with the obvious saddle feathers) is a roo, but I am trying to figure out if he is a certain breed or just an EE? The other chicken with no name currently I am not too sure about either. I am...

    Rabbit and Real Christmas Tree?

We are planning on getting a real Christmas tree this year. Our rabbit is in our living room (where the tree will be.) He won't have any access to it, and his area is probably a good 15-20ft from where the tree will be. Will the oils in the pine be safe for him? Thanks!

    Rooster Mating?

Wow that is super informative, thank you so much. One hen seems to just be getting over her molt, one is having a pretty rough first molt. We have 7 hens and to my knowledge only those 2 are obviously molting. Is it sometimes not obvious? I ask because it seems that only 3 of our hens are...

    Rooster Mating?

Thank you so much!! We ordered 16 more hens for the spring (one surprise who we assume will be a roo) and made sure to get some Buff Orpingtons because we would love some broodies! We are really hoping by the time they are mature we will have fertile eggs

    Rooster Mating?

Good morning all! We have had our rooster for about a month and neither me or my husband (who works from home) have noticed our roo mating with any of the girls. According to my coworker he is about 18 months (the same as our girls.) He hangs out with them all day long, and they are very...
