    New chicks and feeding

So then you just transition them back around 18 week mark? What about egg production? BTW, thank you for your response.

    New chicks and feeding

Thank you. I'm planning on them all being together now. My broody is hatching them and from a previous post, it seems they'll be fine. Honestly, I'm nervous about this but seems to be more common than I realized. Any thoughts on that?

    New chicks and feeding

My chicks should be hatching this week. I have 8 hens (including my broody). I know chicks shouldn't have layer feed until 18 weeks. I don't want my hens to quit laying so how should I separate their food? I thought about hanging the layer feed and then putting the grower feed on the ground for...

    Broody Hen - I don't wanna move

I'll get a better pic this evening. I'm also going to check to make sure there aren't any places they can fall through.

    Broody Hen - I don't wanna move

Thank you for the information. My coop is also ground level so they'll be fine to go outside and come back in. I'll try to attach a picture of the nesting box. They are solid, made from wood. Thanks again!!

    Broody Hen - I don't wanna move

The nesting box is about a foot off the ground, afraid when the peeps hatch, they'll fall. Also, I've read conflicting info that the broody hen should be secluded from the other hens but still be in the same coop? Thanks for your reply.

    Broody Hen - I don't wanna move

I have a broody hen - today's day 3 of sitting. I don't want to move her but I'm concerned about the location of the nesting box. It's about 12" from the ground. Can I move hen and peeps once they're born?

Hen pecking another hen when laying

I do have egg decoys but no one is nesting in the boxes. Only the one is laying so hopefully they'll get it. I don't think she's the dominant one, at least she hasn't seemed to be up to this point.

Hen pecking another hen when laying

So the one being pecked is the first of my flock (19 weeks) to lay. The Rhode Island Red is only pecking her when she's trying to nest. There are 15 boxes, only 9 hens and 1 rooster. That's the thing though, she's not in a nesting box. She has made her nest in the corner of the coop on the...

Hen pecking another hen when laying

First time chicken owner here and they just started laying. One of the hens started pecking the other one and pulling her feathers when she's laying. Is this normal? Do I need to interfere in anyway and if so, how? Thanks in advance!!
