    layer pellets vs. layer crumbles

I actually feed mine both. I find that the pellets seem to last longer and they eat less. I mix crumble and pellets together since I have a flock of two different ages. Everyone gets what they like.

What is wrong with this egg????

They eat layer feed, I also have a dish of oyster shell for them to eat as they need to. I also provide them with scratch grains and they free range all day long. I also started putting a little vinegar in their water. I find it strange because it just seems to be one hen that is doing this...

What is wrong with this egg????

I have been getting an egg or so a day that looks like this. Anyone have any idea what could be causing it? The shell is hard, the egg is fine, the color is fine, just the shell looks like it has a hard time coming through the pipe line. Any comments?

Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

I don't post much because I really don't have anything exciting to say since my hens are only 17 weeks. But tonight, when it was time to put them to bed, I went in to close the coop and two of them BOWED DOWN TO ME. Yes, they squatted. So from what I have read on the other posts, squatting...

    Chickens on the lam!

I bet they will show up at dusk and be ready to go to bed. Mine do this every day. I see them off and on all day but when night comes, they make there way to the coop and put themselves to bed.

Lost one of my girls :-(

I think I may have to talk to the neighbor or something. I went out tonight about 8:00 (the time the neighbor dog came last night) and just as I stepped off the steps there he was about 10 feet from the run!!! I chased him, my black lab chased him and my yellow lab chased him. If he comes...

At what age do they begin to roost at night?

Well I have good news to report. DH checked on the girls all day long hoping that just maybe she would come back. About 4:00 P.M. he went down and did a head count and all 14 were there! I think the dog got her and dropped her or he just chased her into the woods and then he got scared away...

Lost one of my girls :-(

My DH has already said that he is going to speak to the neighbor. I told him last night that I am sure once that dog gets one he will be back for more. If the neighbor does not do something and he comes back again then I will take whatever measures I have to so I can protect my girls! I have...

Lost one of my girls :-(

That is what I have been hoping but my DH and DS went out this morning and checked all around the area that DS saw the dog commotion and saw the dog run and they can find nothing. I am hoping she just wanders out of the woods on her own and shows up but I am afraid that if he did have her he...
