    Help? Vent gleet?

Is this vent gleet? I noticed yesterday that she looked "saggy", her feathers were parted and I saw she was red and swollen. Feels like a tennis ball. There was a bit of dry poo on her feathers. I washed her in Epsom (this is after). I'm adding ACV to the water. Anything else? She's acting normal.

    Broody hotel

They just won't break outside, 90's if not 100° most days. I'm leaving for vacation so they'll be in the basement with a fan for the next 4 days. Really hoping this works, they've been broody for weeks!!

    Help with heat wave

I forgot that I had fake eggs. I remembered after a hen dropped an egg at my feet. 😆 I put them in and a hen hopped right in. I'm open the coop after it cools off a bit.

    Help with heat wave

I've had to close off the coop because of excessive heat. It's 100+ in the coop, even with a fan. Here's my issue..... I put two milk crates, with nesting pads, in the covered run. They have been in panic mode for hours, trying to get in the coop. I'm assuming they will eventually just drop...

Do chickens shed their "winter coat"?

Update! Get this!! So, I was out last night checking just after the girls went in. They were all adjusting to their places on the roost and what did I see? A chicken sitting on the back of another! The chicken with the broken feathers! Her sister was sitting on her back. So, I'm assuming that...

    Help me navigate- 4 broodies

Help! I have 4 broodies and 1 crate. I have one in there currently and I guess I'll just rotate them through. My question is for nighttime.... should I kick out the broody girls and block the nesting boxes? Hoping they'll go to roost? All day today, 🤪 I kept the broodys out in the run and...

    Broody hen

Having my first broody Golden Laced Wyandotte right now. The crate is currently occupied by her sister so I kept her in the run today. Every time I went in to check on her, she'd literally nip my ankles!

    Broody Hen!

She needs to cool off. Put her in a raised dog crate, without the plastic liner, for a few days with food and water. The key is to let the air circulate underneath her. I do have a short 2x3 in mine for her feet. I let mine out on day 3 and see how they act. If they go back to the nesting box...

Do chickens shed their "winter coat"?

Unfortunately none of those. The only thing remotely close for her to rub on would be the nesting box. I'm going to look closer and see if they are indeed broken.

Do chickens shed their "winter coat"?

I have a Laced Wyandotte that I can't tell if her feathers are getting picked because of bullying or is she shedding/ molting after the Iowa winter. Her down is so thick underneath. I've seen her pick there, as well as others while they are just laying around. I have a cokoo maran that is...

    First loss

We have experienced our first loss. We left town for 4 days and had the neighbor feed and water. No blame towards her at all but sad that we couldn't help her. No clue what happened. RIP Nory.
