I have a black sexlink hen who currently seems to have a dried piece of poop covering her vent. She seems to be in distress, and is trying to lay. She's eating and drinking normally. What should I do?
It's starting to get cold, today it snowed for the first time. We have 5 chickens and a small heating pad we're planning on putting in, is there anything else we should do?
Two of my chickens laid their first eggs today, and we took them from the coop. One of them (who we're pretty sure laid one of the eggs) is now acting fairly distressed. She is clucking very loudly whenever she sees me, and is going up to poke around in the coop much more than usual. We gave...
My chickens are spending the night outside for the first time tonight. Our coop has a section for the chickens at night + nesting boxes, and then a mini run, where the feeder and waterer are (we have also a bigger run). We have foxes and raccoons in our neighborhood, so I want to close the door...
Put your hand in with some treats or feed and let them explore it. You can also let them perch on you if they don't like being held. And NO you should not move them to the coop yet. Wait until about 6 weeks
If you have an enclosed space with a roof you might want to put them outside for a few hours a day... if it's on the cooler side make sure you have your heater on + food and water and grit
Yeah. If you have an enclosed space outside with a roof (to keep them safe from predators) let them out there for a few hours every day (whether providing) . If it's chilly also bring their heater out, +food and water. They love it!
You might want to put a divider in their brooder box- separating the ones being bullied from the bully + 1 or 2 that are not being bullied. Make sure they can still see each other though. Then after a few days try reintroducing them
My chickens are 4 weeks old and are now into climbing around on my arm! They love perching on my shoulder too- though I have to wear long sleeves because their talons are getting sharp
