Swollen toes with Black buildup at ends of toes / toenails

I’m assuming it’s a local bird since it was a tiny swap meet. We’ve had some nights in the upper 20s but nothing bitterly cold. thank you for the response! I had brought some birds that came back home with me and was worried it was some kind of foot rot that might be contagious and end up in my...

Swollen toes with Black buildup at ends of toes / toenails

I didn’t know how to even begin to search for what is happening on this chicken’s feet. Saw it at a poultry swap 😲. Seemed to be walking steadily, slowly, painfully. The end of its toes were so swollen. Poor thing! Looked to be a buff Brahma roo at 6-ish months old. I’m guessing fungal...

Crazy idea? Communal nesting boxes and feeding station?

I added a photo - do you think I’ll need another type of roof? Maybe sheet tin to extend the roof a foot or so past the openings? They are from a commercial layer house and have boards built in to land on before entering nest. Thank you for mentioning the heavier breeds; I have a handful of...

Crazy idea? Communal nesting boxes and feeding station?

I stumbled into this roll away 20 nest box on fb marketplace and it “mysteriously” appeared at my house. 😂 #chickenaddiction By June there should be 60+ free ranging chickens ready to lay big pretty brown eggs in it. Soooooo... I’d like to build some sort of multi-purpose chicken “station” for...

Low hoop coop chicken tractor PVC

I built a low hoop coop that’s lightweight, inexpensive, and easy to move. Lots of photos below! 📸 It’s 8’wide x 10’ long x 3’ high at center. The arch uses seven 10’ 3/4” pvc arches and three 10’ 1/2” PVC for horizontal stabilization. The ends are wood built from free 2x2s and 1x3 i got...

    Experiences With Hoop Coops?

If an chicken was injured, I’d push the tractor to where I could reach. Building it and later modifying it, I simply picked up the light and propped it up so I could walk under it and work then. It’s 3’ off the ground at the center. For meat birds that dont need high roosts, the corner braces...

    Experiences With Hoop Coops?

I have built a low hoop coop that’s lightweight and has wheels to easily move. It’s 8’x10’ using 10’ pvc arches. Full length roosts. Nest boxes, waterer, and hanging feeder are on wheeled end to put weight over the wheels. Has hardware cloth in lower sides, chicken wire on top. Electric fence...

    Partridge Cochin? 8 weeks old

This 8wo “teenager” is the most beautiful display of browns, creams, purple undertone, and iridescent. 🤩 I got it as a chick thinking i was getting Brahma x JG. Comb isn’t single like Cochin, heavily feathered feet, eyes are green bordering yellow. Any ideas? Thank you in advance!

    Rooster ID?

Sounds like the chicks will be a mix of colors/characteristics BUT will be egg-cellent layers! 🥳💕 I was hoping for new laying hens with this hatch since his body shape resembles a layer breed and the cinnamon queen are laying machines. 👏🏼🏆

    Rooster ID?

Any idea what breed this rooster is? He’s very active, struts a lot, very protective of his hens, and is such a beauty! He’s with cinnamon queen hens and I’ve hatched out 20 chicks this week from them. Some looked to be sex linked - darker orange males, light orange/yellow females. Thank you...
