Lone hen won’t come out of egg box

Hi there, I have a small flock of blue fauvanacas that are about 6 years old. One hen is very aggressive and was terrorizing one hen to the point where she would lay on it and not let it eat. It almost died because she would peck it and bully it so badly. I posted here and one thing that was...

    Comment by 'bumblerumble20' in article 'Chicken bully/chicken victim - a two-sided issue'

This is a very helpful article but I was wondering: when I create a pen for the victim, can she sleep on the ground? Will a tree stump work or do I need to figure out some type of roost?

Red mites/ 3rd round of topical Ivermectin & coop treatment

I left that part out: I am treating the coop with permethrin liquid diluted and I did try and treat the birds with it and it didn’t do anything!! They came right back within 48hours. I upgraded to a new coop the beginning of the summer and NOTHING can permeate this coop. We live in a place full...

Red mites/ 3rd round of topical Ivermectin & coop treatment

Hi All, well it turns out I have a pretty severe mite infestation. Thankfully no hens were lost. I had to bring out the big guns after trying poultry dust multiple times and then progressed to topical ivermectin with a prolonged egg withdrawal. It seemed like things cleared up well and I wasn’t...

Thanks for your response Mary! So, I should wait a week to treat the hens again? I keep treating the egg boxes, roost, coop and run. I found some in my basement on the chicken coop equipment and did a massive clean out and treatment of my basement. My skin is crawling constantly!! I got a new...

    Permethrin Treatment question

Hi All, Well, you all were right and it turns out my mite infestation was significant. I tried poultry dust and the mites thumbed their noses at me and were back in 24hrs just as bad so I escalated to the Permethrin 10% and treated each hen, their coop, bedding and run. The hens are still (36hrs...

Can you identify these bugs in and on coop?

Hi All, These teeny tiny bugs are all over the coop, the water container, the feeder, EVERYWHERE! I have not seen them on the hens but I dusted them and the entire coop. I cleaned and then I sprayed a water, soap and oil mixture to suffocate the bugs. About 2 weeks later and they are back with...
