Broody Hen Now Rejected by Flock

Thanks David. I have her jail in the coop. When I put it in the run, the other hens surrounded her and pecked her through the cage, and she was jumping around hysterically, and couldn't get away, and they were all pecking her. So I moved the cage into the coop so that she'd at least have two...

Broody Hen Now Rejected by Flock

I'm posting a link to the google photo album so you can see pictures I've taken. These are from September 2nd, so I need to get updated ones. Her feathers have come back already. https://photos.app.goo.gl/3HPzKtgjw7P4huAm7

Broody Hen Now Rejected by Flock

We had our first broody hen. Let's call her "Mama". This has gone on for 2-3 months, and now it seems that one thing has led to another, and the flock has rejected her. That, or she's sick with something, I cannot figure this one out! We did put her in a bucket of water and then subsequently in...

    10 Golden Comets, 2 eggs?

I want to thank you for your help on this. Over a period of about two more weeks, they slowly went back to 10 eggs/day. It was something like, 3, 3, 4, 4, 5, 6, 5, 7, 7, 8, 8, 9, 9, 9, 10 (daily). I'm posting this in case anyone else runs into this same issue. We live in South Carolina, and...

    10 Golden Comets, 2 eggs?

I set up motion alerts with automatic recording for several of the days this week and I reviewed all of the footage. It was chickens just mulling around doing their normal thing. Up to this point, they’ve laid all of their 10 daily eggs in the nesting box exclusively with one or two exceptions...

    Winter laying??

Oh man! We changed their bedding from straw to pine shavings. I wonder if that’s it??? I’d say the timing almost lines up perfectly

    10 Golden Comets, 2 eggs?

Next door neighbors have 7 chickens (4 white leghorns and 3 ISA browns) and they are still getting about 4 a day at least

    10 Golden Comets, 2 eggs?

I’m in SC. They are all definitely laying. All started same week, 10 a day. Then after 5-6 weeks, they’ve done this

    10 Golden Comets, 2 eggs?

Just to update, these are golden comets, which from reading, should lay for 18 months before molting. So I do not think they are molting. They used to be done laying by 12/noon (10 or 11 eggs) like clock work. Now, they are laying only 1-2 eggs total. And we get 1 mid-morning and another...

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

2 eggs today (and every day this past week...) of 10 Golden Comets (pullets who just started laying) who all laid 10/day last month. Message me if you think you can lend any insight. We're worried!

    10 Golden Comets, 2 eggs?

They were baby chicks in the spring, so it seems unlikely that they are molting, right? Thanks for giving your numbers. I tracked it this week, they laid 2 eggs each day. 10 hens.

    Winter laying??

I have 10 hens, Golden Comets, and they were laying 10 eggs a day for all of September and the first 2 weeks of October. Then this past week they suddenly dropped down to 2 eggs a day. We got them as chicks in the spring so I do not think they are molting, and there are no egg thieves, and...

    10 Golden Comets, 2 eggs?

Yeah I read the thing about them taking a break with shorter days / less daylight, and I'm totally good with that. But two eggs surprised me since I'm used to 10/day. I started to think "are some of the hens eating the eggs?" was curious if anyone has seen 10x golden comets drop egg production...

    My First Egg!

Nice!! Get ready for some weird ones, like just a yolk, or super thin shell, or double yolker! Congrats!!!

    Pullet stopped laying?

For what it's worth, my golden comets started laying in early september, and they were good for an egg per day (like your GC). I was getting 10 (sometimes 11) per day, then three days ago it stopped. I didn't keep count on Saturday, but noticed there was something different, no eggs after...

    10 Golden Comets, 2 eggs?

I have 10 seemingly healthy hens who have been laying a reliable 10 (some days 11) eggs per day for the past five weeks. The past three days have been extremely odd. Yesterday we got six eggs, today we got two eggs!! What gives? The temps have definitely cooled down (lows in the 50s and highs...

    Gulping Air?

Thanks, my wife found something similar. They have no other symptoms and seem generally happy. We wondered if it was because they were not getting large enough grit and so we now have regular grit available for them for the last two days, we’ll see if that makes a difference.

    Gulping Air?

Some of our chicks do this occasionally. Anyone seen this? Ours are 8 weeks old. They’ve only done it outside... in this video they are also panting, which I think is normal. It’s been in the 80s and very humid here in SC.
