Cranston, Rhode Island - Help to Change Ordinance to Allow Chickens

It looks like the ordinance was passed, congratulations. The projo says that chickens has to be locked up from sunrise to sunset, but I am wondering if it should say from sunset to sunrise since it's at night they need to be locked up...

City (Newport, RI) Continues Crack Down on Chickens

At least three more homeowners have also been investigated over poultry-related complaints in recent months. As a zoning violation, homeowners who refuse to comply with the ordinance could face a $500 a day fine. It's amazing that there is such an ordinance for a state that has the Rhode Island...

Hawk attack. Chicken seems OK, but looks to be in shock!

I would think that if she had internal damages that she would have died by now, but I am not sure. I called the local Agway to see if they had any advice. They said that they sometimes go into this shock mode and sometimes they come out of it and sometimes they don't. I guess I just have to...

Hawk attack. Chicken seems OK, but looks to be in shock!

I didn't see her eat anything, so I got some powder formula at the pet store that I mixed with water and gave her. She ate quite a bit, but I am not sure if she is eating on her own. I am not sure how long I can keep up feeding her morning and evening from a bowl...

Hawk attack. Chicken seems OK, but looks to be in shock!

She is still not doing well, and I don't know if she is eating or drinking herself since it looks like she stays in one location and doesn't move around a lot. When I hold a glass of water up to her she will drink it, and she drank quite a bit yesterday so I assume she must have been thirsty...

Hawk attack. Chicken seems OK, but looks to be in shock!

She is still not doing well and I don't know if she is eating and drinking. I was able to give her some water out of a cup, and she drank quite a bit so she must have been thirsty. She didn't eat anything I offered her and I tried bread, rice, lettuce. She doesn't seem to move around much...

Hawk attack. Chicken seems OK, but looks to be in shock!

All three chickens laid eggs today, so that's good. The one that was attacked still appears to be in shock though. She doesn't sleep on the roosting pin, but sleeps on the ground. She still keeps one eye closed, but it doesn't look like it is injured. I hope she is eating and drinking water...

Hawk attack. Chicken seems OK, but looks to be in shock!

I checked the coup this morning, and she was up and walking. One eye was still closed, maybe she is still scared and afraid of looking into the eyes of a hawk...

Hawk attack. Chicken seems OK, but looks to be in shock!

They are all sleeping now, but I hope they will be OK in the morning. She is in the coop, but not on a roosting pin. I was afraid of putting her up there since I was afraid she would fall down. I tried to give her some water, but she didn't want anything. Hopefully I am sure the hawk will be...

Hawk attack. Chicken seems OK, but looks to be in shock!

It was sitting on the roof of the jeep and the roof of my neighbors house for a while. One time I came out, I heard this noise UNDER my deck. My deck is about 3 feet high with lattice around it, but there must be some small opening made by maybe rabbits. The hawk had actually gotten in there...

Hawk attack. Chicken seems OK, but looks to be in shock!

I have a small backyard coup and run, but I like to let them outside in my fenced in yard when I am home so they can run around and get some fresh food and dig in the dirt, they love it. However, today when I stepped out on the deck I saw a hawk fly up from next to the deck and I figured the...

    pond cleaning

That's a good idea, I never thought about mussels since it's something I associate more with the ocean. I might have to get me some of those, if I can find them since I haven't seen them at the pond stores. How many ducks do you have in the pond? I have 3 chickens, and they poop a lot and I...

    pond cleaning

You could put a net or wire mesh or something like that over the plants to keep the ducks from eating them. Just be careful so the ducks can't get stuck.
