    Need Ideas

Just to update in case anyone happens upon this in the same situation . . we set up our small wine cooler we got on offerup for $25 on our front porch at least 50% stocked all the time, I think it has 4 racks. We advertised our eggs on nextdoor and on craigslist, through there we got a few...

    Question??

The egg-laying song I'm used to now, it only lasts 1-2 minutes, some breeds might be louder than others but I don't think it varies too much. What varies in my experience is the non-egg-laying related noise I call 'boredom singing', some hens are noisier than others when just strolling along...

    Nesting pads

As long as they hold up and aren't infested with mites or such, they can stay until the hens eventually obliterate them. I switched to the astro-turf pads and now I'll just give 'em a wash once in a while, but not super frequently.

    Need Ideas

Wow, that's terrible to hear. I agree most people are honest. I'm thinking we will set it up during the brighter hours only, since most people passing by are picking up their elementary-aged children, and I'm going to hope they won't steal with their kids around. I also have an older dash-cam...

    Need Ideas

Hi all. Looking for your brilliance. My partner went a bit bonkers with ordering chicks and last year. Fast forward to now - we are getting about 4-5 dozen a day. We live in the bubs of LA but have a big piece of property in-between two schools (read: a butt-ton of foot traffic), so we are...

Galvanized vs plastic waterers and feeders

I prefer the plastic for waterers and duck ponds, and galvanized for dry feed. I know technically the plastic ones can "crack" over time, but over the years I've only had one (out of like 40-50?) crack.

    Goose thread.

I haven't been able to find much online (looking for American buff), but I might get some pilgrim hatching eggs since they're auto sex. Guess we'll see!

    Goose thread.

Okay great to know. If I can even find any females I will get two or so. But it might be a while considering how hard they are to find!

    Goose thread.

Oh I didn't know this. If I'm trying to avoid this behavior would it be better if I just get 2 females without any males around? So far I've yet to receive aggression from any of my dames but I guess I never know.

Raising chicks - shipped chicks dying?

Unfortunately it's common to lose chicks during shipments, especially if there is a big difference in temperature from place to place. I've had about 8-9 orders of chicks come in the past year (from various hatcheries) and all have lost at least a few - either dying during shipment before...

    Goose thread.

I have a love/dislike relationship with my geesies. I have two pilgrim geese, I think they are about 6-7 months old now. It's a male/female pair, so now that the female is laying, the normally obnoxiously friendly male is aggressive towards me. I knew this would happen, but my partner wanted to...

Help with how to cull a Rooster you are attached to

If you are attached to them too much, it might be better to rehome them. I post my unwanted roosters on craigslist for free and can usually get them picked up in a few days. But I do live in a pretty populated area. Besides that, I'm aware a lot of my roosters are going to be eaten, and I'm ok...

What Is Too Much Money For A Chick?

When I was a kid, my grandmother used to get these gorgeous silver and gold laced polish pullets from her favorite feed store. They were $14 each, about 5-6 months old. Nowadays in my area, I see people selling similar birds for $30-40 each. Even people wanting $20+ for their non-specialty breed...

Not sure what this pullet is - Meyer's hatchery

They definitely have a huge mix of the colored egg layers, but fun & interesting nonetheless. I hope these girls lay nice eggs 🥚

Not sure what this pullet is - Meyer's hatchery

    Goslings dying quickly

I know this thread is old but I wanted to provide an update incase anyone else is here in an unfortunately similar situation. After doing some research I'm agreeing with others saying it's coccidiosis. I've never had such a horrible case of cocci in my life and to have them all die quickly was...

Not sure what this pullet is - Meyer's hatchery

She's about 4 months, not a boy luckily. Had a few boys who had comically large combs and waddles by 1.5 months.

Not sure what this pullet is - Meyer's hatchery

Hello, Looking for assistance trying to figure out what this pullet is. My partner ordered the assorted pullets from Meyer's Hatchery. I've searched their site a few times and I can't find anything that matches. At first we thought they were buff orpingtons but as you can see, they have a...
