I've made this cake several times now and just shared the recipe on my little blog for anyone who is interested. I called it "Too Many Eggs Marble Cake." :)
Thank you! This site is amazing. How cool that I can post a random question about egg yolks and receive replies from fellow chicken keepers. ❤️
I'm off to make my 10 egg marble pound cake! (Trying to use up eggs to clear counter space!)
Hello! I was cracking eggs this morning from our backyard flock and noticed two things on some of the yolks: white spots and dark brown flecks. Anyone know what these are? Are these eggs ok to eat?
A quick Google search made me wonder if the white spots are from fertilized eggs. However, I only...
With everything going on I've been home a lot and decided to make some chicken lover t-shirts just for fun. I'm not much of an artist but I think these came out ok. Would love feedback from some fellow chicken fans! Showed these to my husband but he's the wrong target audience. For example, he...
Thank you so much for your reply. Yes, the vet thought it was MG but that she was too far along so there wasn't much they could do. Between Friday and when I got her into the vet she had deteriorated a lot. Poor girl. I'm glad you have been able to treat your chickens for this and that thread...
Thanks so much for your kind words. These little animals sure can have personality and wriggle their way into your hearts. She has stopped laying but I was going to keep her as a pet in the flock because her personality was so great. At least she met a peaceful end.
I ended up taking her to the vet yesterday and the hen needed to be put down. I chose euthanasia since she was my favorite hen - I didn't have the heart to cull her myself. Thank you for the responses to my post, they were much appreciated. ❤
No lice or mites, no worms in her poop but she has had really loose poops for several weeks. I add garlic powder to their feed and occasionally a small amount of DA to help prevent worms, then apple cider vinegar to their water.
Her crop is flat and she feels like she has lost some weight...
I haven’t seen her eat or drink today. I isolated her from the flock after she spent almost the entire time they were free ranging standing in one spot like a zombie. :(
That happened to me once with a broody. I sprayed her good with Davis Poultry Spray, then dusted her with diatomaceous earth (wear a mask when you do this) once she was dry. Under the wings, around the vent and also worked it into her feathers.
I also did a deep clean of the coop and sprayed...
A few weeks ago I posted about one of my hens who had a bubbly eye. The bubbles went away and she seemed fine. All the other hens in my flock have been fine.
Then today when I went to let them free range, I noticed that same hen has her eye shut tight and doesn’t seem to be able to open it...
