    Young cockerel with tail down

I don't believe he would miss him as they really didn't interact or live in the same coop, interesting thought just the same though.

    Young cockerel with tail down

The coop he is in only has two other birds with him (one a week younger who I'm unsure of the sex, and a pullet who is very motherly to both who is 14 weeks). However when they are out of the coops all the birds are together so I thought it could be due to the fact that someone ruffled his...

    Young cockerel with tail down

He had a brief moment of weakness on Tuesday after the one passed as I kicked everyone out of their coops to do a deep clean but he perked up and was walking around fine with the others so I thought I could've just rudely awaken him when I kicked him out to clean. Not sure though, I am just on...

    Young cockerel with tail down

Just to add I did have another cockerel pass away on Tuesday who I had sent in for a necropsy immediately who was found to be emaciated which I was told as long as all my other birds feel like a healthy weight it was due to being bullied by the other birds as there was no sign of anything...

    Young cockerel with tail down

I have a young cockerel (I believe) who is 10 weeks old and was born blind in one eye the lady I got him from told me it was from the egg turner failing. I have noticed the last couple days he hasn't wanted to leave the coop and go outside with his other chickens and his tail has been down. He...

    Blood tinged poop PLEASE HELP!!!

Exactly, they are everywhere, it's nuts! Doesn't matter how much you clean/prevent/treat in some cases mother nature has other harsh plans 😔 I remain hopeful for both of us though 💓 the strong will prevail!

    Blood tinged poop PLEASE HELP!!!

I did also put oil of oregano in their water this morning as I was waiting to go to vet and hopefully with a med etc., And I did notice when I came back to give them the baycox they all seemed to have more energy and were bolting around a lot more, I'm thinking of implementing giving them some...

    Blood tinged poop PLEASE HELP!!!

I am in Canada which unfortunately we have WAY TOO MANY restrictions on everything for purchase. It's been a really bad year here for cocci (so much rain) my vet told me I was the fifth case this week... I am fortunate as I haven't lost anyone yet so I'm hopeful but am prepared for the worst...

    Disinfecting the coop

Hi! I am curious what everyone uses to disinfect their coops after outbreaks especially coccidiosis. I was told to use bleach but have been reading a lot that it's ineffective? Is ammonia the best to use? The floor and walls are wood....

    Blood tinged poop PLEASE HELP!!!

Update! I was able to get a sample to the vet and she was very helpful, advised to baycox whole flock as vaccine works more like a flu shot than a vaccine and doesn't work for all strains. I am wondering if anyone can tell me best solution to use to disinfect the coop? Ammonia? I've been told to...

    Blood tinged poop PLEASE HELP!!!

Thank you everyone for all your help, I feel better off than before, and have definitely learnt my lesson! Just want to give the flock the best chance and with all the info I feel more confident to prevent in the future and hopefully treat. Next time I will be not so quick to jump on herd...

    Blood tinged poop PLEASE HELP!!!

Also wondering if I should be worried about the whole flock or just the two new ones that haven't been vaccinated?

    Blood tinged poop PLEASE HELP!!!

That's where I get lost... I keep reading articles saying to treat all birds even the vaccinated ones then others say not to so many conflicting ideas out there. I have a good relationship with our vet as we have had dogs, goats, and a cat for a while with her so I'm hoping she can clarify.

    Blood tinged poop PLEASE HELP!!!

Okay, good to know! I know for sure the ten youngest ones were vaccinated as I purchased them from a professional hatchery but I am thinking they should all get it regardless as I've been reading about the many kinds of cocci that some vaccines don't cover anyways just didn't want to do more...

    Blood tinged poop PLEASE HELP!!!

Yes I will be trying tomorrow still, they may require a sample though but I have a Ziploc ready in the coop now for the next one I see!

    Blood tinged poop PLEASE HELP!!!

I am feeling very silly for not keeping them separated I just didn't know enough about coccidiosis and thought that with the vaccine they'd be good but after more reading I am learning otherwise and from now on will most certainly be isolating new birds. My other issue is that I have no idea who...
