Large black spots on rooster’s comb

He’s in a coop/run all day, I guess he could’ve cut himself but not sure on what! No other roosters. Does it look like some kind of cut/injury? Just want to make sure it’s not some kind of disease!

Large black spots on rooster’s comb

Hi there, we noticed this black spot on our rooster’s comb - it almost seems like it’s going through to the other side. He seems completely fine in himself. Any ideas?

Hen has very weak legs, lethargic - help!

Hi there, thanks for the reply! We feed her layers pellets and occasional corn, oyster shell, and she free ranges a lot (worms and bugs and grass and whatever else she can find), so I don’t think she’d be deficient in anything? We picked her up and her she’s very light (like she’s lost weight)...

Hen has very weak legs, lethargic - help!

Hi all, we have 8 hens, one of which is a rescue, so we don’t have a clue how old she is. For the past week or so, we’ve noticed she’s been sleeping A LOT, but is still eating and getting around ok, so we just thought maybe she’s getting old. Two days ago, we went to check the coop in the...

    Suddenly stopped laying

I'm 99.99% sure our chickens haven't come to the end of their laying cycle. Our chickens were hatched by us from a neighbour, whose chickens are all laying into year 5 and 6 (ours are only a year old), so I'm not sure this is the answer. Still a bit stumped! I guess we'll just wait a few weeks...

    Suddenly stopped laying

They didn't have any supplemental lighting throughout the winter - we just let them stop laying and molt and rest, so I find it strange that they started laying as normal when spring hit, but now all of a sudden have stopped again. Most of their food is the layers pellets and whatever they...

    Suddenly stopped laying

@Everly808 They all take turns going broody every now and again, but none are broody at the moment - they all just hang out by the house, doing their standard chicken-y things (dust baths, scratching, napping) - no broodiness. @sourland I didn't realise chickens had normal laying breaks during...

    Suddenly stopped laying

Hi all, I have 9 hens and 1 roo and all 9 of my girls have recently stopped laying. They’re not any particular breed (rescue mutts!). 3 are older, but 6 are only a year old. They all molted and pretty much stopped laying over the winter, but we were getting a steady 7-9 eggs for at least 6-8...

    New hen, very heavy breathing

This isn’t an emergency, but didn’t know where else to post! Hope I’m in the right place... We currently have 17 chickens, 14 we hatched ourselves and 3 hens we adopted from a neighbour about a month ago (we don’t know how old they are). One of the hens we named Big Bonnie straight away because...

Chicks sleeping inside a slipper - will they overheat?

We have 7 babies, all 9 days old. We started out using a red heat lamp (have always used ceramic in the past) and couldn’t believe how badly it kept them awake at night. So last night we changed the bulb to a ceramic one and they were in darkness for the first time and they really freaked out...

My ducks have disappeared - not a trace 😞

Awww thanks, I'd love for the latter to be the case! We've been home both days and heard nothing like a fox attack - just silently vanished. We're going to go on a hunt for them, would be amazing if we could find them. Might even put up 'HAVE YOU SEEN THESE DUCKS?' flyers around the surrounding...

My ducks have disappeared - not a trace 😞

We're in South East England - only foxes. We have buzzards (hawks), but from everything I've read they don't normally take anything as big as a duck, but could be - just weird that all three went without a trace within 24 hours.

My ducks have disappeared - not a trace 😞

Morning all, Sad day here at our tiny farm - our three Miniature Silver Appleyard drakes have disappeared. 😞 They're about 6 months old, and have a very strict routine - out of the coop at 7am, they spend all day in our garden, always come to visit us up on the patio, and are basically ALWAYS...

Need quick advice on my ducks please!

Hi all, Will try to make a long story short, thanks for reading! I have 5 mini silver appleyards - 3 boys and 2 girls. We made plans to keep the 3 boys as pets and give away the girls, before they hit duck puberty. They’re not mating or attempting to mate yet, but just yesterday, two of the...

Can someone help tell me if our ducks are M/F?

Hi all, following up and need help!!! We found a home for our two girls and were planning on just keeping the boys. All 5 are still with us as the person taking the girls is on holiday. Anyways, just today, one of the boys started attacking another boy (there’s no mating yet), and by the...

Can someone help tell me if our ducks are M/F?

The woman we got them from has boys and girls and they’re fine together. Is it because there are more boys than girls that we need to get rid of some? Does anyone else have any experience with this or advice?

Can someone help tell me if our ducks are M/F?

Which ones are boys and girls in the video though? Brown ones definitely boys and the mostly white ones definitely girls? And rehome the girls because the boys will get mean and horrible with them?

Can someone help tell me if our ducks are M/F?

We're first-time duck owners, and were given 6 Silver Appleyard eggs to incubate. 5 hatched, and we were told if their feathers came in white, they're girls, if they're brown, they're boys, and if they have green heads, they're most likely boys. Well, we thought we had 2 girls (white feathers)...

    Temporary caging of ducks?

Hi all, We have 5 Miniature Silver Appleyard ducks that have been able to wander our 3 acres since they were fully feathered (they're about 10 weeks old now). We need to weed kill and rotavate about 2 acres of our garden, and obviously don't want the ducks to be able to roam for the few weeks...

    Limping duck - not bumblefoot

Hi all, Just a quick update! Thanks for your help and advice. I waited a few more days and it wasn't getting better, so had the vet come out and have a look. He said he was 99% sure it's a soft tissue problem, not a break, so we waited another week and she's definitely getting better. Phew!
