According to wiki bielefelders are either a cross between malines and american barred rocks or welsummers and american barred rocks. Based on what welsummers look like, the welsummer x barred rock is the rust colored and gray one, while the malines x barred rock are the more plain gray and ones.
Hello,
I know this happened a while ago, but this seems to have happened with many other people, and there isn't much information online about how to fix this.
So this is what we did when it turned up for us.
Instead of breaking the egg, we made a small incision into the prolapsed tissue...
Thank you!! should the chicken be cut into small pieces or can they pull apart a big chunk? Also does it change their poop? I've been a little afraid to feed them meat because of this.
If they're scared to go in, maybe a treat just inside will get them to go in. However If it's too cold I would move them back into a brooder set up and put them into the coop for an hour a day for about a week, then 3 hours, then half a day etc. to get them used to outside temps while also...
Hello,
Our chickens are molting during this time of year and need extra protein. Unfortunately feed stores in our area have run out of higher protein feed. Apart from mealworms, (which we can't get), what are some good protein supplements for chickens?
Hello,

Thanks again to everybody! We’re planning a run sized 4’x8’ (six feet high) plus the chickens will have the ‘run’ (pun intended) of the area under the coop (5x6 incl nesting boxes), about 2’ high. So 62 sqft of run space plus 24 sqft (30sqft incl boxes) coop space for 6 Buff Orpington? Enough...
Thanks to all! The run is about 1/2 the area of a trench all around, so it would be great just to bury the HWC under the run floor — less work, especially if I didn’t have to dig as deep as the trench.
certainly don’t want to hurt the chickens’ feet. How deep do they dig? If I bury a full foot...
Hi all
I’m new to chickens and building a coop. Stuff I’ve found online tells me that to deter digging predators I should lay a 2’ wide apron of 14ga welded wire fence around the coop and run. But the 2”x3” mesh will let rats and mice in, and I’m a bit paranoid about that.
So I was thinking of...
