    What happened here?! (Graphic)

Thanks. I didn’t inspect the area too closely, but one of those two scenarios seems likely. The run is covered and pretty much predator proof I think.

    What happened here?! (Graphic)

Yes, it’s her intestine. Nothing sharp in the coop or run. We do have a rooster but I’ve never seen him be aggressive

    What happened here?! (Graphic)

This chicken seemed fine this morning when I left for work. Just got home to this? I’m fairly new to chickens and I’m at a loss.

    Is this safe?

Went to check on them this evening…four hens in the coop, zero in the dog run! 🎊🎉

    Is this safe?

So, they’ve been together for three days and nights. Old girls chase new girls around a bit, but no damage or blood. New girls quite adept at running away old girls seem content with that. Here’s my question: I left the large dog crate in the run with the door open. The new girls have been...

    Is this safe?

How can I tell when they’re ready to be together? They all seem very calm and the old girls seem interested in the new girls but not bothered.

    Is this safe?

Our rooster disappeared about a month ago. All was fine in the morning and I saw him with the flock in the early afternoon, and dinner time he was gone. Not even a feather to be seen. About two weeks later one of the hens didn’t go in to the cook at sundown and got locked out. I somehow failed...

    Is this safe?

One of the hens already checked out the newcomers. Rookie mistake. So I will move the crate into the run tomorrow. They are safe tonight I think, as we locked them into the small kennels for the night. What can I use for sleeping accommodations in the crate?

    Is this safe?

So, assuming I move the crate away from the run (how far?), are they ok in that small space for a month? Can they sleep in the small kennels for that time? During the four weeks what am I watching for?

    Is this safe?

That’s a good idea. But if I do that you’re saying I’ve lost my shot at biosecurity. Is that a big deal do you think? I was thinking I would leave them in the small kennels for the night, but if I move the crate into the run, should I let them out?

    Is this safe?

We just brought home two new NH Reds to eventually integrate with the two we have left from our original flock of five. Are they safe like this for tonight? Also, how long do we need to keep them separated and what are we watching for?

    Injury?

I’m not sure what this is. All four girls are in major molt, but this looks like blood. She is behaving totally normally and doesn’t like being handled, so I don’t want to bother her. Do y’all think I should be concerned?

    Texas

Hello everyone! Looking for a lead on a rooster to replace our beloved Rook, who disappeared a few days ago. Haven’t even told the younger kids yet, but they will find out tomorrow as they clean out the coop on Saturdays. Specifically looking for a New Hampshire Red somewhere in or near San Antonio.

    Free range risks vs rewards

He was gorgeous, and a very good protector and provider for his girls. I do want to get another roo. We have about 2.5 acres that is mostly not landscaped, so lots of cover. Plus there is a picnic table and deck that they hang out under, and a large covered run attached to their coop that stays...

    Free range risks vs rewards

Curious about everyone’s thoughts. I understand the risks of letting our chickens free range. We just lost our rooster a few days ago, I assume to a hawk, though that’s a guess. I know my hens would be safer enclosed, but they don’t want to be enclosed! They wait at the gate and aggressively...

    Lost our very good boy!

We haven’t seen our New Hampshire Red rooster in three days. Pretty sure he was snatched by something from the sky. I’m heartbroken and would like to get another at some point.

    Duck eggs in San Antonio

She contacted Texas Parks & Wildlife and they told her that they don't believe these birds to be wild mallards, and so they are not protected, and thus are able to be removed.

    Duck eggs in San Antonio

Hello! Posting for a friend here in San Antonio. She found a mallard couple and their nest in her backyard. She is concerned that her dog will get to the nest despite efforts to block it off and is looking for someone to take the eggs.
