Rooster looking ill after recent unknown attack

Poor guy. How is his comb now - any better? Depressed could mean ill. He may really need medical attention. How is his eating, drinking and pooping? Does he ultimately eat the treats? What is his diet? How old do you think he is? I would give everyone Rescue Remedy. JJ

    So....talk about.....CANCER SUPPORT THREAD !!

Coyote What a pain, I was hoping you'd have a less life intrusive road. With new developments happening all the time, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it isn't all that long before they come up with a less intrusive less time consuming way to get the desired gene suppression effects...

hen not eating/drinking chest bone protruding

Hi. This is me, JJ (at work and transcending the madness for a couple of minutes of BYC while eating a sandwich:)). I'm so happy to hear that Bluebell is well!!!! She looks good! And thank you kindly for asking about kitty Samantha. She seems ot be a little bit better though I still see her...

    feral cat

If a regular shelter, vs. a rescue group or no kill shelter, the cat will most often be killed. The OP hasn't been on in a little while so we don't know the particulars. JJ

My heart is broken / Told to get rid of my girls / Resolved!

Feathers, find a way. You can do it. It is incredibly difficult to find wonderful homes for any beings. And it sound slike you would be heartbroken too. Get a copy of the ordinance(s). Be sure of the language. I totally hear you about the dog issue and about noisy machinery. Same deal where I...

    Well said, Catstar/Karen. JJ

    feral cat

And just in case not clear to anyone reading this thread, an animal shelter will likely kill him (unless a no kill shelter). A rescue group will spay/neuter and possibly rerelease. Spayed/neutered ferals in an area will largely keep non spayed/neutered ferals from moving in (territorial thing)...

Observations during molting? BJ roo staggering - hoping related

Except chocolate for humans! Hopefully the worms are okay - he seems always to know what he needs and is utterly desperate for protein right now (even cries for it - such a compelling sound), yet refuses eggs and most any other proteins I've tried. He's having a few nuts from bird seed mixes...

    feral cat

Ditto above post. See if local humane groups will spay/neuter for you and if it costs anything, it's usually far far less than at regular vet offices. This is a golden opportunity for this because the kitty will probably be trap-smart after this and you can impress this fact on the groups in...

Observations during molting? BJ roo staggering - hoping related

Awww - thank you so very much BJ in recent years has not handled cold well so I have provided supplemental heat (not below 38-40 degrees in coop in dead of winter) and right now am keeping the coop at 60 (minimum) since he is struggling (and boy is it obvious when he is cold). Thankfully it...

URGENT KITTEN SITUATION - New Jersey, Eastern PA BYCers

Hi Hannah, this is me, JJ (BYC system doesn't recognize me when I check in from my work computer). The babes are in Hopewell, in Mercer County, NJ - Hopewell is 15 minutes from the PA border, closest PA town being New Hope. I'll alert foster Mary to your potential interest and you and she can...

Rooster looking ill after recent unknown attack

Birds will need to be in lockdown for now or hawk will get another. Right after an incident like this, surviving birds could use some electrolytes and Rescue Remedy for stress and shock. (in a pinch you can spritz Pedialtye on watermelon or something else they like). Offer everyone treats to...

    Can she possibly survive?

Well, maybe they can help her live rather than help her die. I rescued an injured roo that didn't eat or drink for 7 days and he made a full recovery with really great care. Do give her 3 drops liquid children's vitamins - Polyvisol without added iron - daily to help boost her strength...

    Can she possibly survive?

If at all possible, an avian vet. I think you're going to lose her imminently otherwise, since cause of her ailing is not yet known and she is now so very weak. She needs hydration, tube feeding.......This is an emergency situation. JJ (aka jjthink)

    Rogue Hen

Some years back, I adopted out 2 roos that had shown up in my life out of nowhere (my PC [pre-chicken] days) and at that time I didn't have proper accomodations so I found them a home with a nice person. Unfortunately one of the roos was not well accepted by this person's flock and the poor...

URGENT KITTEN SITUATION - New Jersey, Eastern PA BYCers

Hey all - The kitties were also vaccinated against rabies yesterday. Sadly, the little gray stripey with white belly on the left in the first photo died yesterday during surgery - we are so terribly terribly sad. She had been the picture of vibrant health and we don't know what went wrong...

Chicken didn't want to leave coop this morning, seems weak.

I am so very sorry. Dear Gracie. You have such a good heart to try to give her every chance. Poor Pattie - if you have or can get, put a drop or two of Rescue Remedy in her water (Bach Flower Remedy - health food stores...) for the next handful of days. It may have a claming effect. So...

    Chicken Coop Mansion

It's very nice but curious about the dimensions - I have 2 chickens and they are in a bigger house than that and could barely endure 1 or 2 more...JJ

    I'm so sad....

How long did the vet think healing would take? Did he give you pain meds for her like Metacam (or maybe you are giving aspirin water?). JJ (jjthink most of the time)
