New geese under a year old trying to mate

Yes the one that I thought was a male does have a bigger body. His knob is maybe a little fatter looking. And he seems to be more agressive than the other. Hey either way with two female of male and female I will be happy. Twice the egg or goslings :D

New geese under a year old trying to mate

They both actually have knobs. The one on bottom seem to have a larger knob. But the color of the one on top is a much darker orange. I am heading out to our feed store to get hay and I will look for a layer pellet for geese. I’m a total newbie and didn’t know they breed in spring and fall...

New geese under a year old trying to mate

So I bought my two geese (white Chinese) back in March so right now they are about 7 months old. I caught them trying to mate in their pool. I know one of them is definitely a female. I have seen them both mount each other so I’m not sure if one of them is definitely a male or not. I have heard...

Can geese eat peanut sprouts ?

Ok that’s what I thought. There’s not many in the bag anyways and they aren’t hard to miss. Thank you

Can geese eat peanut sprouts ?

Hi! I’m trying to sprout some fodder for my geese. I’ve decided to use a wild bird seed blend that has milo, white millet, black oil sunflower seeds, safflower seed and whole peanuts. I’ve read that raw peanuts are toxic to geese is this true with the sprouts as well or should I just be on the...

Best backyard bug killer that won’t harm my chickens

Yes I agree. Honestly when I posted this I didn’t think of bug zappers my mind was “ I want to kill all the mosquitoes” lol. I didn’t want to use a pesticide unless it was 100% safe for them to ingest. I agree with not wanting to eat poisoned eggs or meat and I especially don’t want to risk...

Best backyard bug killer that won’t harm my chickens

This is another great idea. I really didn’t want to use a pesticide or chemical of any kind. So I think i might try this. We don’t have any standing water although it has been very wet due to rainy weather a week ago and the ground is still pretty wet in spots.

Best backyard bug killer that won’t harm my chickens

I have thought about investing in a dyna trap. They are a little costly for a bug zapper but I’m assuming they’re worth it. I’ve heard a lot of good things about them. If the mosquitoe traps that I’ve hung up today don’t start working within the middle of next month I may consider dgetting one...

Best backyard bug killer that won’t harm my chickens

Haha yeah. We were actually at our local farm store today and found a mosquito trap. It’s similar to the fly bags or the Japanese beetle traps. The box says it’s proven to significantly reduce the population in the area but we will see in the next couple weeks. If all fails we will just invest...

Best backyard bug killer that won’t harm my chickens

Yes I read another thread similar to mine and someone suggested bug zappers. I may actually do this. The mosquitoes are terrible day and night and if this can at least reduce the amount that are biting me and my birds then hey I’m all for it.

Best backyard bug killer that won’t harm my chickens

I’ve read that it’s not safe for them to ingest. I know a lot of farmers and livestock owners use that product but I’m just a little nervous about it.

Best backyard bug killer that won’t harm my chickens

Thanks for the suggestion. I have heard about that pesticide. Although I do let my birds free range and they eat the grass and what ever bugs they can get ahold of. The pesticide you suggested is not safe for any grazing livestock and I’m not willing to risk that and my geese cannot be penned up...

Best backyard bug killer that won’t harm my chickens

We live in Missouri and the mosquitoes and gnats have been really bad this year. We want to spray our lawn to get rid of really those two pests. Since our chickens and geese eat the grass everyday we want to find a pesticide that won’t harm or kill my birds. What is the best product we should use?

What to feed my geese over winter

Hmmm I may try a small bag of the hay at first to see if they’ll even eat it. Mine are pretty picky 🙄 . Other wise I may try fodder. Heck I may do both if I can find grain for cheap. Because When I snow here in Missouri it snows and leaves no grass behind. Thank you all for the different ideas...

What to feed my geese over winter

That’s very interesting. I don’t grow different herbs mainly for my chickens but I don’t know that I’d have enough for the whole winter for both groups.
