Both hens are 2 years old. I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary when I am with them in the evening. I work all week but this weekend I could put her back in and hang with them all day.
I lost a hen last week to I am sure was attacked. Her belly was pecked of all feathers and most of her comb was missing. Now exactly a week later we found another chicken starting to miss some belly feathers and now feathers even on the from of her neck. I'm attaching a pic this time. We did...
Came home to find one of my hens badly injured. She was just laying out in the run on her side. Most of her comb is pecked away and has all her belly feathers missing (or pulled),raw and bloody. It even looks a little bloated.
Can't figure out if they attacked her or was she sick and...
For how long? Is there a way to tell she has stopped being broody before I put her back in? We have a 2nd coop that we use for new chicks that is currently not being used. Can I put her in there?
Should I lock away both away together or do one at a time? In 4 years she is my first to ever...
I have been dealing with a broody Golden Comet! And now I have 2! We settled with Golden Comets because of their laying ablities and rarely go broody. We have been dealing with one being broody for quite awhile and now one of her sister's has started in. I have been collecting eggs multiply...
Well everyone is alive! We had more trouble with our mature hens. They won't let them in the big coop. The roosters actually haven't really bothered the mature hens but only when our big girls harass the pullets. They seem to stay on opposite sides of the run.
I do have a mature hen I was...
Was hanging out with the girls this am and this poor girl came out of the nesting box limping. On further inspection I found this lump between her toes. Is this bumblefoot or something else? Doesn't seem to cause her pain and she's eating and drinking.
I have 15 Golden Comet chicks that will be 16 weeks on Monday. 10 hens and 5 roosters. This weekend we plan to combine them with our other 16 adult Golden Comet hens. We plan to keep 2 of the roosters. Should we put all 5 roosters in for now or can we separate 3 from the group now? Plan for...
Actually today was worse. I had to have my son help me put them back in their coop. Kept trying to jump on me. Two totally made it and then roosted on my arm. All 15 crowded me. Was afraid I was gonna step on one. Plus their chirping is getting more and louder.
A couple weeks ago I had issues with my chicks becoming aggressive with me. Now is the complete opposite. I have 15 golden comet chicks. 10 hens and 5 roosters. All 7 weeks old. They are now at their 3rd day in their very own run. Spent quite a bit of time with them in their run and not...
Our baby chick coup is big enough to hold at least 25 adult chickens. We have 2 large waterers and 3 feeders. I try to hold them as much as possible. Plus I have noticed the rooster chicks are chest bumping each other. We only plan to keep 2 roosters and eat the other 3.
It just bums me...
I have 10 hens and 5 roosters that are 7 weeks old Golden Comets. I've noticed the last 2 weeks I have 3 roosters and two hens that are very aggressive when we are trying to clean, feed, water, or hold them. To of the 3 rooster chicks have drawn blood! Is there anything I can do to curve...
I have one 2 year old and fifteen 1 year old Golden Comet hens. We recently bought 10 hen and 5 rooster chicks (now 3 weeks) at 1 day old. We built a separate chick coop for the babes next to the run.
My adult hens have been acting a little different the last two weeks. The all wedge...
