Argh, I hope you both are wrong, but I was thinking those two both might be as well. Fingers crossed that they aren’t male... I would hate to have to give them up 😭
Hi all!
So I know this question is probably pretty premature, but figured I’d ask in case some of you silkie experts might be able to take a guess already.
I have a few 5-6 week old silkie chicks. The paint colored chick was the smallest of the bunch, then the frizzle and the blue one was...
I just picked up 3 silkie chicks and realized the green plastic ties around their legs are Getting too small. It looks like they might be zip ties but I can’t tell since they move a lot.
How the heck can I get these off them??
I have 3 3-4 week old silkie chicks and purchased an adjustable brooder plate for them. One of the chicks is bigger than the other two, and the two seem to have cold feet. They haven’t been sleeping under the heat plate so I keep adjusting it In hopes they sleep under it, but they just huddle...
I purchased this brooder in anticipation for 2-3 week old chicks... do I also need to buy a red bulb for the area? If so, can I buy one that is not hot?

The square part under the waterer is just a place for the water to fall I think. There’s a grate right under the waterer Bc I think since the waterer is automatically filled every morning, that the old owner made this so the run off could fall in there? I definitely think it’s a waste of space...
Currently, we have a chicken enclosure/run that is 12’x6’x6’ that I feel is definitely not optimized to its potential. We inherited the run when we purchased the house and it I feel like the coop needs a lot of work if we want to have 6 chickens in there (currently only one hen right now).
Has...
hmmm, maybe I will wait on the silkies until the other chickens are broody then. I don’t want anyone to get hurt. Is what I’m doing with silkies + larger fowl a normal thing?
I don’t think she puffs up, but she grumbles a little bit. She was just walking around the backyard for the last 20min and now just hopped back into the nest.
Also, her legs are white and have an extra talon in the back. Our buff Orpington didn’t have that extra talon there.
They are brown eggs and before the other one died, she would lay every once and a while... never could tell who was laying since they both were to some degree. Frequency was questionable since they’re obviously older. Thursday was the last egg we got from her.
If she is broody, could I try sticking the silkies under her at night?
I apologize for all the questions, I just want to make sure I don’t do the wrong thing.
ah, which brings me to another question for you... so we have had some fake eggs in the nests for a while, trying to get the two hens to become broody so we could stick some chicks in there, but the chickens were not keen on it. Now that there is only one hen, for the last 5 days since the other...
