The pics attached here are a few weeks old (sorry ) but essentially the australorp has literally doubled in size and height and has a tail now, but the sussex has only grown some white feathers...
I don't know what the gender is, or how fast these chickens grow but I was counting on them not...

I am from Sydney (near the city) so I can't have a rooster But on the other hand, i might be able to get a Rhode Island Red hen soon and I heard they lay more eggs than silkies;) so I'm still really excited.

Aside from the time-zone differences...this site is awesome. I originally found it from pigeontalk.net...I think I might recognise some of the people from the pigeon forum *nudge nudge*
Anyway, I own only 10 ( ) birds at the moment as my parents are so anti-birds It's funny I was even allowed...
Is that normal??? The silkies didn't seem to mind, but the pigeon (which is a white indian fantail) was following them around everywhere and trying to feed them (by vomiting)
She doesn't have a mate and does lay eggs and also tried to mother my fully grown african ringnecks!!!!! I think she gets...
If you handfeed them, even if they don't take food the first time, they will run to meet you. This sounds impossible...but I trained a quail to do that too!!! :O
I've also found that chickens like to be held like dogs, so they feel secure. If you tower over them they will naturally feel scared...

This chick had the infection when I got it...probably for a month or so
I'm not sure when it started but it almost disapppeared at one point then it came back! The other chick shows no sign of infection
Has anyone encountered this problem before? I tried using the eyedrops which I have to apply 3 times a day but does anybody know if an ointment is better? I don't want to blind her! :O
@ elmo- I mean, they sleep inside at night because it's winter where I live and i am worried they will freeze...
Wow yours are so pretty! Mine came home half plucked and it took them about 10 months (until winter) to shed all the old feathers and grow a new set!!!
