Can I move my chicks outside?

More than ok. Anything around 70 at night, even at two weeks, is enough.

    Chicken Fencing

Hi all, Raising meat birds for market, wanted to see if anyone knew of a fence that would be easy to set up. Biggest concern is the chickens slipping through small gaps. Current set up, any suggestions are welcome.

    Brine Chill?

It's not, we're using a mobile processing unit; it's fairly bare bones. My goal is to have customers come the day of slaughter and chill the birds in their own manner

    Brine Chill?

Hello all, Processing 100 chickens this weekend, and as the title says, I am wondering if anyone has ever cooled down their birds after slaughter in a brine solution; if so, what percentage would you recommend?

    Ohio Brooder

https://photos.app.goo.gl/RdoNBGNpe4wcn4nS6 Took this yesterday, how do they look? They're averaging around 3 pounds at 4 weeks and 3 days. When do you think they'll be able to go on pasture?

    Ohio Brooder

@jher77 CHICKS! A DAY EARLY! Temps seem to be holding around 70-80 in the areas not heated, and 90-97 under the Ohio Brooder with an outdoor temp of 45-51; tomorrow is supposed to hit a low of 29. I plan on giving them hard boiled eggs around 8pm so the 5-6 hour peak digestion coincides...

    Ohio Brooder

4'x3', I wanted some space between the walls and the bottom. I added insulation to all of the sides, and where the x is is where the bulb ended up going. I'm just doing one batch, so I guess it won't be too bad with the shavings. I agree; it was originally meant to be a portable sheep...

    Directing Heat

Thanks! I've put a lot of thought into it. That's correct; the temp in the Ohio Brooder is between 87-95° measured directly in the center 3" off the litter. I haven't had time to measure closer to the bulbs, but I'm probably going to have to raise it a little higher to let more air circulate...

200, but the place where I was going to do them is having doubts 4 days before the chicks arrive.

Ohio Brooder with auto Temp controls

I ended up doing two 250W in the Ohio Brooder (they're pretty high up on the side, I might get the cage for them anyway though) and three 125W in the hover. Getting temperatures of 87-95 underneath the lights, and 60 at the edges of the brooder. I'm not finished with insulating, it should be a...

    Directing Heat

Using this setup, I am getting temperatures of around 95 in the center and 60 in the area between the ohio brooder (which is currently not finished, I am assuming it will throw off at least 10-15F into the space between) and the hover light. I am not done insulating the coop (or with cable...

Ohio Brooder with auto Temp controls

https://photos.app.goo.gl/m1e3Foow5RNrkyX19 Here is a video of the brooder, it's currently uninsulated. In addition to the Ohio Brooder I have 3 Premier 1 heating plates, but I just learned that they only keep chicks warm in temps above 55-65°. I have access to a heating dome, I'm thinking...

Ohio Brooder with auto Temp controls

Ambient temps are between 35 at night and 65-70 in the day, night is mainly what I'm worried about. I'm unsure of the R value of the insulation that I have, but I can double layer it if the temps aren't holding. Good to know about the ceramic elements, thank you

Ohio Brooder with auto Temp controls

How hot does it get in the Ohio brooder? I have a 4'x3' and I'm unsure of what else to add in addition to a 150W ceramic reptile heater.

    Ohio Brooder

Hello, I'm planning on raising meat birds (Cornish Cross) this summer using an egg-mobile that has been repurposed to a brooder (it has brooded successfully in the past). Here is a video of the brooder Brooder (13'x7'x5') What wattage of red light should I put in the Ohio brooder? I have a...
