Thanks for the nice remarks. I appreciate them.
About retro.... Chickens have been in our lives for several decades, and at first, I used a little Brownie Instamatic box camera. Finally it just fell apart, all 4 sides, all at once, all outward. Absolutely astonishing and couldn't have been...
I think you're right, they do sense. What you've written about your young roosters is interesting -- thanks very much for sharing that.
Yes, he's a great chicken, and it's so nice that everybody is more peaceful now, less tension for all. :D
There isn't a coop per se at our house, although some I've seen at BackyardChickens.com are creative and beautiful, true works of art. So this is just about sharing where our chickens have lived through the years. It's a rural area, no formality! and whatever was here, was used.

I posted a recent question about the current rooster living here, at least 6 years old, who has been acting unnaturally aggressive (for him) with the hens. There aren't many hens, and they are in a chicken yard until the garden is down in the fall, but this has been unusual for him.

Thanks.

Thank you for that link. It's interesting information and I enjoyed reading it. :)

You make good excellent points, thanks very much. I'm not sure I could handle watching an overthrow having seen a quite horrible one in the past. We thought we'd timed it all out, but, nope. There are so few chickens here, they pass on of old age, and it's nice to have a replacement hen.
I...
Thank you! I hope to be more involved and just need to take the time to do so, because I love chickens. I just asked a question on bird behavior re: increasingly aging (at least 6+ years) and increasingly aggressive Cochin rooster that otherwise is a really nice chicken. I hope someone has...
I read these posts with interest but still wonder why the Cochin rooster here is becoming more aggressive nowadays and is at least 6 years+, old. He's becoming obsessed especially with hens he senses are thinking about setting - even primps and fluffs nests and then calls them in, which was...
It might have been that I didn't post an introduction when I joined backyardchickens.com several years ago, so here are a few thoughts.
Currently I'm in northern California, in walnut country, live on a small property, am a wildlife biologist, artist, and author.
About chickens: Chickens are...
