A good pellet rifle either co2 powered or pump will do it . I have one to scare off unwanted visitors without being deadly IF i dont pump it up too much. Pumped to the max 10 pumps the pellet travels 850 ft per second. From 2 feet, thats deadly, and quiet.
If you give your kids only what they love and not what they need, they will clean their plate every time. Chicks need a good starter grower (crumbles) occasionally some treats are ok, depends on what you provide, maybe some probiotics to help that gut, probably too many treats.
No, you dont spray or otherwise wet the eggs. Doing so could compromise the protective coating naturally present on the eggs. Water in the incubator only as per instructions.
To us, natures ways seem cruel at times. Survival of the fittest to propetuate the species. If all survived it would weaken and soon make extinct the species. Know that natures ways are right, take good care of the ones that live on to contribute to the next generation. It has always been that way.

At large I would think meant on anyones property but your own. A 6 foot fence may not keep them in without clipping wings.
