How long after moving will pigeons breed?

Yeah, I’ve never been too keen on letting them breed during the winter myself (it gets cold here and even with a heat lamp chick mortality isn’t great) But I just wanted something to tell my dad. He wants some birds he can let out and watch fly again, lol! Breeding always is faster and more...

How long after moving will pigeons breed?

Hey there! our flock just got ravaged by a raccoon, so we got some more birds. My dad was really attached to the old ones, so I’d just like to ask, about how long will it take pigeons to acclimate before they pair/mate up and lay eggs? Couple weeks? They’re all sexually mature. Thanks!

Anyone know where to buy bands?

true, but I think those ones are fake and won't work for racing. yeah, they're homers. 10'll prolly do just fine if you don't mind! I've only got three pairs that are consistently breeding, so there aren't too many babies left in the year, I'd expect.

Anyone know where to buy bands?

I can't find any in stock! Will there be more bands made this year, or am I just out of luck? First year having pigeons, and I'm down to two bands. Any thoughts are appreciated!

Help! Baby pigeon hurt it’s foot!

Sorry for not replying! I brought him inside and he made a full recovery. I think he might’ve just sprained it or something. I gave him plenty of food and water and a small makeshift nest to rest in, as well as a very, VERY small amount of ibuprofen if he was clearly in pain as well as b complex...

Baby pigeon not growing (unfair feeding)

I will say, the one good thing about having one bird be a lot bigger is he's good at keeping the smaller one warm! They snuggle up to each other lol

Baby pigeon not growing (unfair feeding)

Couldn't say-- again, I haven't seen the parents feeding them much, and the only time I've seen was the mom feeding. and I'll try the adding fresh feed thing.... I've just got to wait for mom to be hungry. She's full but the baby's only got one kernel of corn in its crop or so :(

Baby pigeon not growing (unfair feeding)

Hey there. I've got two pigeon chicks, about a week and a half old. One is big and well-feathered, and the other one is tiny. A bit bigger than how she hatched, with a little bit of feather development. Pretty active, eyes open. Mom's feeding both, but the smaller one's crop is pretty...

Help! Baby pigeon hurt it’s foot!

For a bit of clarity, he can extend his full leg. He doesn’t want to, but he can. He cannot, as far as I know, extend the lower part of his leg. Could it be a tendon issue?

Help! Baby pigeon hurt it’s foot!

Hey there. I’ve been exercising my baby pigeon for a couple days now, as he’s about 5.5 weeks old, so I’ve just been letting him take small little flight sessions off of my hand. I think he got a bit too excited and tried to fly onto the floor of the loft, which is wire, and hurt his foot. He...

Any tips on how to make my birds happier?

That’s what I’m thinking. I’m planning on building a larger loft (going to use the red rose plans off pigeon.biz) so hopefully once I move all the young birds and a couple pairs of breeders into the new loft there’ll be more room for the captive breeders. They’re got decent room as is, but more...

Any tips on how to make my birds happier?

Alright, I will. Maybe on one of these warmer days I’ll fill up an old tub I have with some warm water, let them bathe and not freeze. Mustard seeds is an interesting idea, though I SHOULD have some in the spice cabinet!

Any tips on how to make my birds happier?

To preface, I think my birds ARE happy, at least, as happy as breeders can be who are away from their home lofts, but I think they could be happier. Should I give them treats or anything? Do y'all have any tips for keeping your birds as happy as they can be? The young birds seem happy and...

Think my bird’ll come home tomorrow?

Interesting story! Hopefully the hawks don’t get to him, but you never know in this part of the nation, especially in winter. Only been 2 days though.

Think my bird’ll come home tomorrow?

I mean it's my fault at the end of the day, should've been more careful. I really do hope he shows up since he was a good and fun to watch bird, but at least I have a squab out of him.

Think my bird’ll come home tomorrow?

sorry! forgot to check the thread. No sign of him today at my loft or his home loft. We're hoping he just got rained out though- it was his first true flight in about 8-9 months of life, so my theory is he was flying around or back to his home, just enjoying himself, then had to roost for the...

Think my bird’ll come home tomorrow?

Roundabout 45 minutes away, I think the guy might’ve moved though. I’ll ask him in the morning just in case. I’m just hoping that baby bird is enough incentive for him to come home and feed, but we’ll see.

Think my bird’ll come home tomorrow?

High quality homer. I can’t remember the exact bloodline, though. The parents were racers that both finished top 10, though. Just has never been flown, so I’m thinking he just went to route and went overboard. Just never know, and my brain’s being a worrywort.

Think my bird’ll come home tomorrow?

Hey there! I was feeding my birds this morning, when one of the birds got away. He’s about 9 months old, been at my loft for 3 months, and wasn’t flown at his old loft. He also has a squab at my loft that’s about 3 weeks old, and a mate. He just sort of took off, pecked at the ground for an hour...
