See the egg in the center? This chick is not zipping how it should. A significant part of its shell is off while the dry membrane remains. It probably pipped within the last 12 hours. Do I remove the top?
Thanks so much! Love seeing her out and trying to walk. Looks pretty strong and healthy. Going to try a splint on her left foot a bit later. Other than that I think she’s good to go 💪💪
I ended up helping her out. She was ready to come out, membrane absorbed. Issue was it had dried and stuck to her back so she couldnt rotate. My concern is if she will gain the strength to walk.
Chick pipped 30 hours ago. Began to zip last night and for 12 hours could only make a circle in her shell. In other words, no progress.
I began to assist by removing the cap. She pushed it off and now appears stuck as in the photo below.
she’s been chirping loudly all afternoon. We’ve seen her...
Have removed about 1/2 to 2/3. When she pushes the rest of it shows the crack as if the top is about to give way. She can’t seem to push hard enough. 🤷♂️
Thanks - the only brownish yellow is the spot near the hole seen in the picture. I’ve removed more of the outer cap and there appears to be no veining. Very dry. She is chirping loud and clear. But struggling to get out.
This chick pipped over 24 hours ago. Began zipping last night but no progress. It’s chirps are extremely loud and mature but it appears to not be able to get out. I’ve removed a bit of the outer cap. Should I keep going??
Out of an abundance of caution im clarifying again. Here’s an update of the chicks progress. Does it appear to need help? I’d prefer not to assist if I can help it.
One of the articles you linked says if it’s started zipping and hasn’t finished in an hour it probably needs help. Does the size of this hole indicate it has already begun the zip? If so that would mean it’s been stuck for awhile unable to zip further, correct?
