    Chick hurt by older chicken

Yes she is! She’s in the brooder and her sisters are in our little coop. The big asshole chickens are in the big outdoor coop. She’s still alive! Lonely but eating and drinking. I hope she survives the night. She’s the sweetest of this year’s chicks. 🤞 and we have already lost 4/9 of this order…

    Chick hurt by older chicken

Help! We have chicks in a dog crate in our run. One of our big asshole chickens got one of the little girls and got her really bad 😭 I don’t know what to do - BluKote? What are our chances here? Visible tendon and adipose, no bone. I feel awful, I thought I had them secure enough

    Chick clicks when breathing

I’m not sure. We ordered them online from a hatchery so I’m sure it’s possible. I’ll look for those YouTube videos. Thanks for replying!

    Chick clicks when breathing

Ugh that’s what I was afraid of. We had one we culled from this batch that also had a damaged/injured leg...we culled her. The other was FTT. I’ll try the egg yolk. Thanks for replying!

How many chickens can you have?

We can have up to 25 on a lot under 1 acre. We are not allowed to have roosters in my town.

    Chick clicks when breathing

Hi everybody. I have another sick chick from my batch of recently hatched. She is breathing really hard and making a clicking noise when she does so I am pretty sure it’s some thing respiratory. She also appears to have developed spraddle legs which I have braced but she is fairly weak and...

Help please! Baby chick with injured leg

Thank you. I have her in a small Tupperware style box. What can I use for heat? A reusable hot pack under the puppy pad maybe?

Help please! Baby chick with injured leg

Hi everyone. This morning I opened up the brooder and found one chick down with an injured leg. She is still feisty and eating and drinking and peeping but I imagine she is in a lot of pain. She doesn’t seem to be able to o put any weight on it. Can I splint this? Or another idea? I’ve seen...

Help! Helping a broody hen be a first time mom?

Thanks for all this info Dobie! Very helpful points to consider. I booted her off the nest this afternoon and she went right back on. I’m going to see how she does over the weekend and go from there. I’ve ordered 9 chicks, hopefully they will all arrive alive - 9 might be too many for her?

Help! Helping a broody hen be a first time mom?

If I give them to mama, I could cordon off an area of the coop for them, but I would have to move her to do it - she’s in the nest box closest to the roosts 😖 but I could brood the chicks on their own in the coop with a heat plate. I have a setup ready to go for them that is pretty portable.

Help! Helping a broody hen be a first time mom?

Hey all! I know this has been a well rehashed topic but i was hoping for some feedback. I have a hen (Belinda) who is, I think, officially broody. After a week or so of extended nest-sitting, she camped out all night in the nest box and has not gotten up for breakfast today. She is a new...

    Chicken Breed Focus - Legbar

We have two CCL pullets- Elsa (right) and Anna (left) - my 4 year old named them 😂 because they will lay blue eggs, and blue is of course Queen Elsa’s favorite color! So far no eggs, because they’re only 16 weeks. But we can’t wait for our Queen Elsa eggs ❄️ I think Anna is technically...

    enclosing a "free range" space

hey all! We are talking about spring chicken plans over here and one of those plans is managing the flock in our yard, while protecting them from a few hazards like traffic and dogs. We keep our chickens in our side yard, because we have a pool in the back yard (fenced). We have a good sized...
