    Think I'm a rooster

My young hens think I'm their rooster because they come up to me and crouch down to be mounted. I do the best I can by giving them a little scratch on their back. That seems to be good enough because they stand up, shake their feathers back in place and walk away making their happy noise. You...

More humane to cull? More humane to live?

I agree that culling would be the humane thing to do. She would otherwise slowly starve to death which sounds worse to me.

    Quiet pullets

My pullets just started laying eggs a couple weeks ago. None of them make that "ba-cauuk" sound they are suppose to make after they lay. Whats up with that? I even tried to make the sound for them to teach them but they just looked at me as if to say what's wrong with you. Maybe I got faulty...

What breeds should I add in spring?

You thought suggestions would help narrow your choices? hahahaha!! I think you just expanded them. I think there are almost as many breeds as there are chicken lovers. Ain't it great.

What breeds should I add in spring?

Look up Bielefelder. I received on as a free chick with my order from Murray McMurray Hatchery. It is by far the prettiest chicken I have ever seen. Pictures do not do it justice. they are barred like a barred rock only the coloring is different. They are light red on they'er underside and dark...

thanks, I'll read it but it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks, haha. I am really fairly intelligent until you put electronics in my hands. I got a smart phone cause my kids talked me into it, the phone is smarter than me.:(

I have raised me some egg eaters!

I have been told that is a sign they need oyster shells. I like the idea other have of filling eggs with soap or something else that tastes nasty in combination with offering oyster shells.

So happy I found a place where I can talk to others about my chicks.

I was also watching one of them who found a tree frog and spent a half hour hitting it on the ground to get pieces off to swallow only to have one of the young roosters to come along to steal it from her and swallow it down. She looked so befuddled.

So happy I found a place where I can talk to others about my chicks.

I just spent a half hour watching my 7 week old chicks. One of them made a nice little spot to have a dust bath. She was really going at it when a couple others saw her and had to join in. Before 15 mins was past all 26 chicks joined in. It was like a dust bath orgy. They were all piling on top...

    Kayla’s Flock 2.0

My ex husband put up an electric fence around the inside of the other. It worked like a charm, although it took regular maintenance with a week whip.

    Retirement chickens

My name is Kathy and I live in northern Indiana. It has been 27 or 28 years since I have had chickens. Six weeks ago I ordered 25 babies after building a small coup. I'm hoping to end up with 12 to 15 hens. It looks like I have at least 6 little roosters. I have Anconas, Americanas...
