    How to treat bumblefoot

Just wanted to come back and update. It took quite a while, and we had to open the foot a second time, but she did heal up and get back to her normal self. We did a wrap with antibiotic ointment that we changed every 2-3 days as well. Thank you!

    How to treat bumblefoot

Thank you. I really didn’t want to do it, but she tolerated it fine and if it hopes her feel better, it’s definitely worth it :) And now we are prepared if it ever happens again.

    How to treat bumblefoot

That worked to get the kernel out on the bottom. But after a couple days the top was still not great so we cut it and removed the pus from in there to hopefully speed the healing. She did really well, poor thing. Thanks for your help

    How to treat bumblefoot

When we unwrapped the foot, it was already much less swollen from removing the scab on the bottom, I guess. Even the top looked like it was deflated a bit. But we cut the top one open and removed all the pus we could find, cleaned and re-wrapped. Will keep you posted. Thanks again

    How to treat bumblefoot

Glad I'm not the only one. Husband is out of town so it's my son and I dealing with it. I almost want to ask my neighbor to help as he's a surgeon but I feel ridiculous doing so!! haha I need to get it together :)

By cutting, you mean, like the first article you shared, right?

    How to treat bumblefoot

Thanks for the advice. The flock usually free ranges on about a 3/4 acre, but since this injury she has stayed pretty close to the pen. It's good to hear that sometimes the less invasive methods help them to heal themselves. I'll keep checking and applying the ointment and re-wrapping every...

    How to treat bumblefoot

Hello @Wyorp Rock , I pulled out the kernel from the bottom of her foot tonight after soaking. There didn’t seem to be anything behind it but skin. I filled the hole with neosporin. But I couldn’t tell what to do with the swelling in the top of her foot. There didn’t seem to be an obvious scab...

    How to treat bumblefoot

First time dealing with bumble foot. I’ve been googling but am wondering- would it be advisable to try soaking this foot daily and applying antibiotic ointment/wrapping before going to the slice open/surgery treatment? I would like to spare her pain if possible but she’s obviously in pain with...

Confused- Can my drake live with the hens full-time?

I had 2 Pekin drakes about 8 months old, who grew up together and were super adorably bonded. They lived in a pen inside our garden fence on their own. We also have 6 ducks and 14 chickens that live in their own pens and free range in a separate backyard. Unfortunately one of the drakes died...

One of my bonded pair died, what to do

Thank you. I thought about getting 2 pekin ducklings that can be his new BFFs but don't want to do anything rash. I have had him in with the female ducks the yesterday and this morning for an hour or so supervised and he is doing just fine. He is standing up to them now, maybe because he is...

One of my bonded pair died, what to do

One more question- since he is a pekin and the ladies are smaller, will they be fine having him in with them? I don't want him to hurt them. He does still have slightly bent legs from his previous malnutrition that didn't correct all the way, so they're probably a lot faster than he is, but I...

One of my bonded pair died, what to do

Thank you. There has never been any actual damage and he is a lot bigger than they are (buffs, khaki campbells and runners), they just run at him and peck him. How long would you say it might take?

One of my bonded pair died, what to do

I was given 2 rescue ducklings that turned out to be male Pekins. They were extremely bonded to one another. I tried introducing them to my flock of 6 ducks a few times but the girls just bullied them, and since the Pekins were kind of special needs from being malnourished before we got them...

Rescue Duck- still having neck problems.

Thank you! I am wondering if it maybe has scoliosis or some other deformity and perhaps it is not wry neck. Our other ducks grew without any issues and I'm a newer duck owner and don't know all the things that can go wrong with them, but I saw a few things about this on the forums just now. One...
