How to treat bumblefoot

First time dealing with bumble foot. I’ve been googling but am wondering- would it be advisable to try soaking this foot daily and applying antibiotic ointment/wrapping before going to the slice open/surgery treatment? I would like to spare her pain if possible but she’s obviously in pain with this as is now and can’t walk on the foot. If she needs the surgery we can get supplies and do it tomorrow but if soaking could work will try that first. Thanks for any advice you can give

I think she may do very well with daily soaks in warm water, preferably with Epsom salts for 15 to 20 minutes daily. I suspect that with a vigorous, yet gentle drying with a terry rag, rubbed downwards from her leg towards her toes (don't want to rub it against the grain of her scales) after her soaks will ultimately lead to the infection escaping from the top wound first, as the skin seems thinner there, but I could be wrong and the soaking might soften the scab on the underside enough to 'pop' off.
Once the wound is open, it is important that you wear protective gloves as the contents can transmit sepsis.
Chicken pus is very different from watery human pus. It is thick and cheesy and will need to be completely removed from the wound using the type of pressure you would use to coax a pimple out. Be certain to get it all out or the infection will persist.
I'll keep you and your feathered family in my prayers.

Thank you. We soaked tonight. Will keep trying for a few more days before proceeding with the other method

Hello @Wyorp Rock , I pulled out the kernel from the bottom of her foot tonight after soaking. There didn’t seem to be anything behind it but skin. I filled the hole with neosporin.
But I couldn’t tell what to do with the swelling in the top of her foot. There didn’t seem to be an obvious scab. Some old skin peeled off, and was bleeding, so I put neosporin on that also and wrapped it. Will I need to do more to help her out on the top?

Also, when I was washing out the hole on the bottom, the wound wash splashed back into our eyes :( do I need to worry about staph infections?

Do you let her out every day? Also I am dealing with bumblefoot right now, my hens foot was bleeding. I left it for a couple of days, and it turned into pus. I wrap my chickens feet, I find putting Vaseline on it helps soften it.

I spray it with Veterycin, put some Vaseline and wrap it with gauze. I did that to one of my hens previously and it healed! It took about two weeks and I did every two days.
