Oh damn! Didn't even think it'd be a rooster. He/she's 20ish weeks. Haven't heard any crowing yet, hmm. The feathers definitely look suspicious though. I only inferred that he was laying those eggs because of the size. Thanks for the input!!
Hey BYC community!
I adopted 20 pullets from a local farm a few months ago and they're finally getting to their full size and have begun laying. I have figured out all of their breeds except for one. It's a huge mix. I was wondering if y'all would have some input on what breed you think that...
Nope, I didn't last year and was getting only 2 eggs a day in the winter. That's why I put the timer on. The thing is, I have a fairly large family and we eat a lot of eggs, and I sell eggs, and its hard to have to tell your customers you don't have any eggs to sell.
I have 40 grown hens and I only get on average 15 eggs a day. I have kept track of how many eggs I get each day and back in April/May, they were laying an average of 25. They just started their annual molt. But this decline has been going on for longer than that. They are all healthy. Some of...
I attached T111 to the outside before I installed my door because I needed to have the coop wall redone. Then I just cut a hole the size of the omlet door in the t111 board. Then I hung the door up. This fixed my issue of closing off the extra space that was there before from the larger door I...
I have my coop hooked up with lights and timers right now. I have read around a little bit and done some experimenting myself. People say it's best to give the chickens a natural sunset. So, don't have the lights come on in the evening/early night. Is that true? Right now I have the timers to...
UPDATE: The Omlet is still working amazing! Not a single issue yet. I really love it and am so thankful I decided to get it. There isn't much to say except it's an amazing piece of equipment!
UPDATE*
I have had the door installed for a month now. No issues with it. One night last week, my chickens didn't all go in the coop. If I hadn't of checked outside, they would've been left out there. This is not the door's fault though. I must have given them scratch or something too late in...
Planted 3 rows of green beans. Also transplanted my lettuce seedlings. Not sure how they're going to grow. I also planted a few squash seeds and mulched them with leaves.
I haven't used any doors that are gravity with a string like that but from photos and product descriptions, they don't look like they have predator safeguards. The doors like the Omlet and Run-Chicken, those types, the gears usually lock so nothing can open them.
LOL I just read back my post and realized that I called the boards L1011. L-1011 is an airplane model. I got it mixed up with T1-11 which is the correct name for the boards I used. 🤣
I don't have any cochins so I can't speak on that but I do have a very large bird that can fit through it.
I installed the door today!
It was extremely easy. The instructions tell you exactly what you need to do. Because the current door hole was a lot larger than the Omlet's required opening, I had to do a little more work. Because I needed to cover the outer coop walls (they had old paint and it...
I also wanted to mention, that if you get the 12v adaptor, it will mess with the electronics in the door. My door wouldn't open but it would close when I was testing it when I got it. So just make sure if you bought the 12v adaptor, and it's not opening for you, try using batteries. Mine worked...
I don't have any experience with ducks but with chickens. In the warm time of the year, my coop has a lot of flies in it. I tried traps last year and they were worth it. There were just too many flies. They totally caught flies but there were just too many. I think I'll have to deal with it. I...
