Should i introduce 2 new chicks to hen with her 2, 5day old chicks?

Hmmmm! A possible nighttime slip?! I admit that now I am worried about doing this since she hatched them on Friday. I am very happy to hear that your girls took to them so quickly! Albeit a little confused how they magically appeared! 😉🤣

Thank you for the advice! That's my husband's opinion too. I was hoping she'd be receptive to 2 more little ones. 😔

Should i introduce 2 new chicks to hen with her 2, 5day old chicks?

I have an orpington hen who just hatched 2 of the 8 eggs she was sitting on. As I would like a few more chickens, is it reasonable to purchase 2 chicks and put them in with her and her chicks? Is it likely she will adopt them since they are nearly as young as her chicks? Or is Is this a recipe...

Bloody Back, Missing Feathers, and Now Other Hends Missing Feathers

Thank you! Good to know I need to treat each day. I didn't want to overdo it. Would those little chicken saddle "jackets" help? Do they at all interrupt the rooster's activity? Heaven knows I have enough fabric laying around that I could figure something out or surrender and buy a few...

Bloody Back, Missing Feathers, and Now Other Hends Missing Feathers

Thank you! Good to know that the Blue Kote I put on her before I put her in the crate was the right choice! Should I apply it again before I release her into the flock? Also, will a few weeks of being separated in the crate perhaps help the situation or have no effect on it?

We used this for our 10 chickens and it worked very well when they were little. As they grew we kept raising the "roof". It worked well for us, as our chicks were raised in our basement in the spring where it can be pretty cool. Note: we slipped the cord thru a piece of pvc pipe in order to...

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Let me preface this by saying that we are newbie chicken owners. Our 9 girls and 1 boy (all Buff Orpingtons) are about 6 months old. We've been looking thru the coop each day to check for an egg. This afternoon I spotted one egg nestled in the shavings. I was so excited that I immediately took a...

Review by 'puisheb' in article 'Chicken Behavior The Ignorant Gal's Guide To Things No Sane Person Would Tell You About Chickens'

I love the humor and first-hand experience explanations! I had tears in my eyes when reading this. What makes it valuable to newbies like us is that it's real world, first-time chick parents! For example, I appreciate learning that chickens dig! I thought it would be shallow little divots...
