The oystershell will help her pass the eggs for sure! If its very hot where you are, this could be the reason! I think when this happened to mine, it was when the weather changed here in Atlanta. If its the same for you, offer cool water several times a day and maybe a fan in the coop at night...
From the faces I see here in this photo, they're all female. None of them are Cream Legbars though... a legbar cross, definitely. The brown one in the back looks larger than the others but it could just be the photo. It's the only one I'd be suspicious of.
I have a legbar that does this... same age. When it happens, she drops 2 softshell eggs within hours of each other. She looks horribly uncomfortable when it happens. I haven't figured out what triggers it. All her needs are met... safe, excellent nutrition, calcium, clean water, minimal stress...
Thanks! In my head I know that but since they're sold as a "Lakeshore" I was quick to call it a breed. I know there can never be a SOP for them. Do you know what they're using as the crosses? I know they're legbar but I'm curious what other breeds they're using. I haven't been able to get or...
Greetings, Peeps!
New to the breed but they're looking super spiffy at 5 weeks! Can you help me out with your guesses? 😁 Tell me what we got here! TIA!
Curious... do your legbars faces and combs turn lighter and deeper red based on their mood? I have one girl that when I bring a treat to the coop or if she is mad at another hen or if she wants to be picked up, her face/comb get bright bright bright red! The other legbar, Henrietta, not so much...
If you have cats, just be sure they're not nearby the poultry dust. Can be toxic to cats. Its derived from chrysanthemums, who knew cats were allergic 🤷♀️
ProZap Garden and Poultry dust is best for babies, effective on mom and coop too. No egg withdrawal and not harmful to human/chicken lungs. Work pinches of dust into feathers/fluff head to tail and vent area. Treat nest and coop by sprinkling into corners, crevices, bedding, floor. Best wishes!
