    Need help with cornish x.....

My friend has meat birds getting a large hole on the side of their butt and then dying? Like it looks like the skin split open and its insides were coming out but nothing got into the pen. She says this is the second one and another is laying down. Not wanting to walk. Just kind of blah acting...

What will I end up with?

Thanks for the replies. I'm doing this as a favor for my neighbor and they asked me. I could only tell them that I thought breeding a hybrid they would most likely have more traits of the original breed. I've never dealt with these breeds before. We'll see, one just hatched a little while ago...

What will I end up with?

I'm incubating some eggs for my neighbor. They are from his black sex link hens and Dominique rooster. What traits should they have? Can they be sexed at hatching or will they have different traits?

    Help! Assisting a Hatch??

I had a similar situation with a Silkie egg that the hen abandoned. I resisted the urge to help until it hit the 18hr point and then I just chipped a little spot next to the hole the chick had already made. Two hours later it completed hatching on its own. I keep reminding myself that this is...

Comment by 'ZooSD' in item 'Easter Eggers'

Most of my flock are heavy breeds and I felt much the same when I got my three. I only got them because my grandkids wanted "Easter eggs". They were flighty and stand offish. Now that they've all grown up and started laying they've mellowed out a lot. I give them treats - they love grape leaves...

Planning to move to Middle TN next year...

We're in Calif now and planning to move to Middle TN by Summer of next year. Are there any areas more "chicken friendly" than others. My husband is a city guy so I don't want to force him away from all civilization so I can have my chickens and a goat so I'm looking for an area to meet both our...

    Broiler survey

    1. SD 2.SD 3.D 4.SD 5.SD 6.A 7.D 8.A - I don't think they are near as healthy as home grown but given what the American public eats you could do worse. My answers to 7 and 8 are based on my family's eating habits until we started raising our own. Since we started raising ours my family won't...

    Our babies made it

I ordered mine from McMurray and I've been really happy with the size and health of these guys. I'm afraid I'm completely spoiled now with bigger birds and my kids see whole chickens at the grocery and shake their heads saying how small they are compared to ours.

    Meaties not really huge

I give my meaties (cornish x) fermented turkey starter which is 28% protein, for weeks 5-8. They really pack on the weight and if anybody hasn't been processed by 8wks they are switched to whatever my layers are eating. If these were chickens that you were going to keep around then you wouldn't...

    Our babies made it

I'm sorry. I really don't think you did get the CX. I did 4 last Saturday at 8wks on the nose and the two smallest dressed out at 6.5lbs. They grow exponentially the last 3wks and can barely walk now and aren't even 9wks old. Did you get these from a local feed store or order them online? You...

    Polish Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My son got a Polish as his free "mystery" chick. We thought Phyllis was a girl but sadly at 14wks it has proved itself a boy. Is anyone here interested in a golden buff (I think that's what they're called) Polish cockerel? Unfortunately we already have 2 roos and can't keep him here... My son is...

    Is this Phil or Phyllis?

UPDATE: We had high hopes that it was Phyllis, but this a.m. at 14wks Phil started crowing. My son isn't up yet but I have to tell him today that his favorite chicken from his own little flock needs to find a new home. Does anyone in the San Diego area want a Polish cockerel?
