Strange object found in a nesting box, is it a body part or ill-formed egg with ovary duct?

Sorry about this unpleasant photo. We were shocked to find a dark reddish brown object in the nesting box today. The egg looking object has strange tubes attached to both end. The "egg" part is hard and rubbery. One end of the tube looks like part of the intestine, clear, soft tissue, and wet...

Is it safe to feed chickens burr combs with lavae from bee hives?

Hi, we removed a good deal of burr combs from our bee hives - lots of them with lavae. I tried giving them a small chunk, they went crazy and ate the entire thing including the comb. They won't stop just at picking the lavae out of the comb. Is it safe for them to ingest the comb?

Help! Fox...staring at my chickens !! Hot wire, hardware cloth apron or ?

She just laid an egg without shell in front of me, do I need to be worried?

Since today is the coldest day we have had this winter, I gave my chooks some extra end of day treats. While all of them were excited and going crazy with the black sunflower seeds and mealworms, I noticed Clove - our Olive Egger, who is usually the leader and often jumps up to my bag/bowl -...

Why only 16% available for layers?

Reading this forum has become my daily obsession, there is so much information from all the postings! As an accidental chooks mom (or grandma since I inherited our spice girls from my daughter who left home for graduate school) I am hopelessly obsessed with our lovely chooks and I also have so...

    How to strike that balance?

My tenure as a chooks mom is just as young as my girs! I have only young hens, 6 laying, 2 seem to be imminent. They are all 6-7 months old (bought them from a farm at the end of June, they were at most 1-2 weeks old then). We switched to layer feed when we spotted the first egg 2 months...
