    Tips on taming/socializing chicks

Those beeds sound great and so beautiful. I understand that they are very friendly and sociable too. Big thing is patience and spending time with them and making them feel good and safe when you hold them. They might struggle with you. Just hold firm but gentle, talk and whisper to them and...

    Tips on taming/socializing chicks

Hello kasato003, I am so happy for you. Chickens are great and depending on the breed they can be very social. My experience comes from raising 14 hens and one roster since babies (mail order chicks). We have six barred rocks, three Jersey Giants, four Asterlops, and one Faverolle. We have had...

    Summer molting?

Thank you for info. I don't see lice. I will check again. They are dealing with selecting a new pecking order since Felix the roster has gone.

    Summer molting?

Hola Toloache. Sounds to me like you are doing everything you should. My girls molted late winter (head, neck, shoulders, and tail and some funny spots). They got all their feathers back I think. Just recently, a couple or so look like they are molting. Heat is hard on the girls. I'm still...

    Summer molting?

Thank you for your replies. I had a roster but it has been a month or so since he is gone. Had to put him down as he was injured since birth. He was hurting, and wasn't able to walk much. He was hurting the hens too when mounting them as he was heavy and clumsy; it was very sad but it felt like...

    Summer molting?

Hello Wyrop Rock. Yes I am in the USA on the west coast side. I am attaching pictures of the whole flock and of the chichiada with the most molting. Picture didn't capture the molting as well as I was hoping. Any thoughts?

    Summer molting?

Thank you Blue Raptor. My chiquiadas seem happy and healthy other than molting. Yes, if I had that many feathers I would like to lose them in the heat!

    Summer molting?

Greeting everyone. My chickens appear to be molting. This seems very unusual for late spring-early summer. We are having a bad heatwave (102-106). Normally it is high 80s mid-90s. Is anyone else experiencing the same problem? Please let me know and all suggestions are appreciated.

    Hi chicken friends!

Yes, one roster and 14 chickens. My Roster "Felix" has his own harem! This is why I call him Felix sounds like "Feliz" in Spanish, which means Happy!

Chickens and rain. Will they get sick if they get wet?

I'm new to chickens too. I have barerock, jersey giant (black), and asterloop. The rain seems to bother them some but not too much. I think I am more bothered than they are. My covered run is getting muddy. I have a drainage problem, so I am putting in a wood pallet in the run until the rain...
