Mine take a bit of time after winter to really get into the swing of things. Maybe a few more weeks of drakes doing their job and check eggs again for bullseye? I know I have much fewer fertile eggs in the winter when I try to incubate eggs, compared to spring. That being said mine are all...
Partially depends on what you're getting them for? Eggs? Meat? Pets? Eating and destroying grass and yards? Looking cute on your farm?
If that's irrelevant and you just want to know favorite breeds I can answer that as well LOL
I love my magpies. I also love my runner ducks because they are...
I have mine fenced off from the rest of my flock and the outside world so limited ability to interact with the big wide world right now. I have chickens (roosters and hens) as well as my ducks (drakes and ducks), and a lot of predators. I was afraid my roosters or drakes would kill them and my...
My tiny mallard just hatched 9/11 of her eggs. I think that was probably the most she could really sit on because she's small. But a larger duck then should be able to have a bigger nest.
Yes! She started with 11 eggs, 1 I tossed a week or two ago. And 1 was a late quitter that was dead when I checked it tonight. 9 of 11 is the best hatch I’ve ever had and way better than any of my incubator batches. I love my broody mallard ladies (I have 2).

My drakes:
Black magpie or fawn/white runner
(Guessing it’s the f/w runner as the father)...
So far so good. All 11 that were developing before the power outage appear to be okay. 1 or 2 I'm a little iffy on because the shell makes it hard to see, but fingers crossed!
You'll need to be ready to rehome both ducks when you determine their gender (usually you can do this between 4 and 8 weeks old) if either (or both) turn out to be male. If you keep your ducks in the same run as your chickens, you SHOULD NOT have male ducks without plenty of female ducks. Like...
