    Chickenfan451s Chicken Coop

This spring we decided to get some chickens. We originally thought it would be great to use the old rabbit hutch under the deck that the previous owners built. Then we decided to move it because we didn't want chickens right up against the house. It wasn't until half of it was moved that my...

What color eggs do the Silkies lay?

We have a mixed flock right now, but have been considering one or two breeds. We like the EE because folks really like getting a blue egg so we are going to add more EE to our flock, but cannot decide on the other breed. I would like brown or chocolate layers. We would like to find a breed that...

    First timer question. :)

We have had chickens for a year now (okay, maybe a little under a year haha) and are ready to hatch our own little chickens. We have made a homemade incubator and are ready to go and we have read how the process works. The only question I have left is how do y'all get them to start on the same...

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Yesterday we got five from our thirteen hens haha. My friend down the road gets 23 from her 25 hens. I think she must sit behind her coop and whisper "soup... soup" haha. I guess mine are just to look at.

Coop Contest 2010 - Win $20 BYC Store Gift Cert. Ended 9/12/2010

We just finished getting ours up. We still have painting to do and I would like to reshingle the lower roof but it has been raining every day so we haven't been able to. I wanted to post so I could compete in the contest (lol that is laughable, my coop is nothing compared to some of the ones on...

    Sliding Glass Door in Coop

I got a free sliding glass door, took it apart and used one side for my people door and put the other side up as a door after turning it on its side. So I have a huge door I can see through and one window that is absolutely huge. Love it.

I posted on a local community website looking for leftover linolium and got a huge piece for free. Another option is to check Craigslist. Good luck.

    Chicks in the yard.

Hi everyone, So I have four day old chicks and would love to treat them with the occasional fresh veggie. I have called everyone in the Denver metro area and I can't find chick grit. I do live on a mountain made of granite. Our soil really isn't soil its more like sand. I read in another thread...

Try this link. Also in YouTube search "clipping chickens wings" and you will get some more. I really liked this guy because he is trying chickens for the first time and has a bunch of episodes that are about his garden and chickens. Funs stuff.

Is it possible to make a run big enough to not be stripped.

Thank you everyone for your responses. Pat, I do have a quarter of my acre fenced in and that is where I was planning on having them free range. Can I just use the quarter acre for their run? I can't cover a quarter acre, that would be nutty. LOL. I do have very small dogs (4-8lbs) that have...

Is it possible to make a run big enough to not be stripped.

We are getting fifteen chicks next week and I am working on the coop and run right now. I was planning on a run being about 150 sq feet and was hoping that would be big enough they wouldn't strip the land. I'm suddenly afraid that won't be enough. Should I be resigned to the idea that it will be...
