    Missing feathers and not laying

I had read that molting didn’t happen until their second year but I’d be very happy to be misinformed on this and have this be a natural process. We just want to keep our hens healthy. Thanks for your reply!

    Missing feathers and not laying

She’s 9-10 months. I had read that molting didn’t happen until their second year. I’d be glad if it was just something that simple TBH.

    Missing feathers and not laying

I am new to chicken keeping but I had read they usually don’t molt until after they’re 1. She is probably about 9-10 months now. I’d be glad if it was molting TBH.

    What breed?

What breed do people think this hen is? We was hard to figure out as a chick and then we settled on a Partridge Rock. However she resembles a lot of pics I see people post of Welsummers. She lays medium brown eggs. However she has not laid in about 2 weeks I assume due to short winter days. Thanks!

    Missing feathers and not laying

One of our chickens (we have 4) has stopped laying eggs recently (it’s been about 2 weeks) and we haven’t been all that worried since we know they can slow down in winter. However over the last few days we have been noticing lots of her feathers inside the coop. They seem to mostly be coming...

18 week old ISAs, Easter Egger and Partridge Rock- no eggs yet!

Now I am so curious who did it! Definitely one of the ISAs. It’s so little and cute!

18 week old ISAs, Easter Egger and Partridge Rock- no eggs yet!

Strangely enough they have started to move the fake eggs around in their nesting boxes and kicking some out into their coop. I take this as a positive sign that they’re interested but I also don’t want them to break their eggs once they start to lay by doing the same? Almost 19 weeks now and...

18 week old ISAs, Easter Egger and Partridge Rock- no eggs yet!

I will make sure to do so. However most times when they’re out in the yard they don’t stay still in any one spot for long at all.

18 week old ISAs, Easter Egger and Partridge Rock- no eggs yet!

Hello all, This is my first time raising chickens and I have 4 18 week old birds. 2 ISAs, 1 Partridge Rock and 1 Easter Egger. I was wondering when I should be expecting to get our first egg. I know ISAs are prolific layers so we keep checking every day and nothing yet. I kind of figured we...

New chicks- Barred rock chick and Ameracauna?

Sent pics of her to someone at Meyer and they are saying her feather pattern is consistent with a Partridge Rock!

New chicks- Barred rock chick and Ameracauna?

I’m still thinking she looks a bit like a brown leghorn?

New chicks- Barred rock chick and Ameracauna?

Here is the suspected Welsummer at 9 weeks. Everyone still thinking that’s her breed?

New chicks- Barred rock chick and Ameracauna?

Here she is around 5-6 weeks. Welsummer, right? Definitely pullet?

    EE gender?

Here are a couple photos of my 6 week old EE. She is definitely the leader of the flock so far but is also a friendly and easy to handle bird. She is bigger than my other chicks but I have just assumed she is a bit older since she was one of only a few EE left when we got her. Is it too early to...

New coop is just about done!

Thanks!! I was taking that something we built would be more sturdy than the pre fab coops and then we could customize it to suit our needs best. It did take steady work on it for about a week to get it done though so I for sure see the allure of a pre- made coop!

New coop is just about done!

We do have a nesting box on the back side of the coop. You just can’t see it in the pics!

New coop is just about done!

Our coop is just about complete for our 4 chickens who still have a few weeks to go before they can move in. I am so pleased with how it came out!! Waiting for wood to be ready to paint. The run is 5x8 but we plan to allow them to free range when we are around. We have locks with carabeaners on...
