My wife loves to take pictures and videos of our Black Marans Chickens. Too bad she was being a "slugger bed" as she missed an ideal opportunity.
Some background info: I'm disabled so have a tough time doing a lot of the stuff needed for my chickens. I don't let that stop me I "gitter done"...
There sits Lady Grey on her favorite roost in the world. My wife's camp chair. She sometimes is even willing to share "her chair" with my wife.
Lady Grey is quite different that the rest of my flock with her gray facial features and lack of a comb. She also tends to stay away from the rest...
So far I've been feeding my girls starter/grower feed and now they are 17 weeks old I am going to transition from grower/starter to layer feed.
To do so my wife and I have discussed measuring and mixing the two on the following schedule:
Week 1 75% Grower/Starer (GS) and 25% Layer Feed (LF)...
I had a (I THINK) palmetto bug show up in the chicken run. I'm not sure because as soon as it showed up six chickens converged on it (vicious girls!) and the resulting flurry of repetitive tug of war made it disappear.
Hi folks,
This being my first flock of chickens I check out darn near every chicken raising related video, read all sorts of "How-To" blog posts and basically use every source of info I can find to expand my knowledge of all things chicken.
My flock of six Midnight Blue Marans chickens is...
Nah... I'd continue to give them the eggs in hopes their conceince gets the better of them.
That wouldn't stop me from saying things around them like "I can't believe the nerve of people who complain about my chickens... they are quieter than most people's children and dogs!"
Yes... I've done...
Well the coop went back and now I'm trying to figure out how to make a good coop myself, which is what (in spite of disabilities) I wanted to do in the first place. If I have my way it will be the world's first fully ADA compliant chicken coop. :-)
If my wife has her way it will look like this:
So here I am with six growing like weeds Blue Maran Chicks and my chicken coop from Tractor Supply arrived. The driver was nice enough to put it in my back yard for me. I'm rather disabled so this was a wonderful thing. On this past Wednesday I started putting it together and then the fight...
I recently purchased six Blue Maran chicks from Tractor Supply. One of the things their associate did tell me was just because they were sexed does not mean a rooster doesn't sneak in once in a while.
During my nightly "poopy butt inspection" one chick triggered my what's out of place here...
I'm going to ask a series of questions in this post having to do with the first bunch of weeks of raising chicks. These questions come up due to conflicting information from a variety of sources of my research and talking with the "Chicken Expert" at Tractor Supply (aka TSCE) .
As I stated in...
As I type this my wife is laying on the bed next to the chicks who have all laid down (except one who is developing quite a personality) and she and the majority of chicks are asleep.
Funny how chickens was my idea but they have become "her" babies. :-/
From the template:
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I had wanted chickens for years and didn't live where I could reasonably have any. So this dream stayed on the back burner until now.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have six one week (now) old...
