I recently purchased six Blue Maran chicks from Tractor Supply. One of the things their associate did tell me was just because they were sexed does not mean a rooster doesn't sneak in once in a while.
During my nightly "poopy butt inspection" one chick triggered my what's out of place here instinct.
Unlike the rest of the chicks one chick has ridges on its beak along the top beak for about a quarter of the beak where it meets the rest of the skull. Consulted the Great Oracle Google and according to a couple of sites that were the top results I may have a rooster. The chick also has some feathers coming in on its legs unlike the rest as well.
Chicks are now two weeks old and are maturing nicely. One even comes when called (I call her Margaret).
What other tell tale signs should I be looking for?
