    Beardless Salmon Faverolle ?

This is Lucy, she was sold as a Salmon Faverolle but I wonder if she truly is, she has no beard, and she's quite "streamlined" in her body with quite a lovely upright fanlike tail. When I've looked at pictures of others they of course have the beard but are "dumpier" in the body and the tails...

Has anyone had success in raising a one-legged chicken?

I have a little orpington chick (1 1/2 weeks) with a deformed hock joint, it's in a splint (been on nearly a week) to get it to set in a more "natural" angle. She barely puts any weight on it and hops around on the good leg using the other leg only as a prop on occasion. She doesn't seem to be...

How to stop them soaking the brooder

The first lot of chicks I raised absolutely soaked the sawdust of their brooder pretty much hourly. What's the best way to stop this, will raising the waterer do the trick? or am I better to use newspaper flooring for quick changes as this is just what chicks do...?

    Sudocreme for Scaly foot?

Has anyone used sudocreme for scaly foot? I don't have any petroleum jelly and thinking it would work as it's a thick barrier cream with antiseptic. Any thoughts would be great :)

I have 4 chickens in a large ish enclosure however now the grass is gone in there they are getting very keen to get out... We don't have fencing on two entry points to our garden one is the with of a standard door, the other is the width of a single driveway. My partner doesn't want to put...

    What's with that silly chicken?

So I have a very confident Australorp puller (roo potential) who very much like to use me as a perch but does not like to be cuddled as such.. I have a shy silkie who I'm getting used to being handled. Today when I picked up the silkie for a cuddle the aussie got very disgruntled and was...

How far will a chicken roam

Sorry I'm not sure if I'm putting this in the right place.... out of curiosity how far will chicken's roam from their coop if not contained? Do they stray far and wide or tend to stick close by?

    sneezing silkie with clear discharge

I got a new silkie to add to my little flock two weeks ago, I've noticed she occasionally sneezes with clear discharge, she's otherwise a perfectly happy chicken doing chicken things. Is this something to be worried about, will it clear itself up or do I need to take action? Bedding is...

I know I've already asked but... Boys or girls

I asked this same question a few weeks ago, initial think was one boy (white) and one girl (black) people said it would be obvious in a week or two if they were boy or not... Well it's been a few weeks now and I'm still not sure 😂 they're around 10 weeks now.

Broodies hatching and raising chicks? What's the go?

It's not happened yet but... When/if my Silkie goes Broodies I'd be keen to let her hatch some eggs. Is it generally best practice to separate mum and chicks from the rest of the flock or can you just leave them altogether and mum will protect her babies from the other hens?

Cutie babies grow so quick 😭😍

Took a growth comparison of my snuggly light Sussex. A month old vs 2.5 months, far too cute not to share. She may be much bigger but she's still a cuddle bum.

White lumps/clumps in silkies neck feathers... What's going on?

Tried to take some pictures.... Silkie has white clumps in its front neck feathers, they're ever so slightly squidgy but don't pull out at least not when doing a solo job. Anyone got any ideas on what it could be and what to do about them?

Lice lice and all things nice (or not as the case may be), what to do?

I've just noticed two of my pullets have tiny little light brown coloured lice crawling over their skin. The chickens seem to be completely unphased. Is it normal for chickens to have some degree of lice regularly? I've read spraying the chicken's skins with apple cider vinegar with water...

Every day's a learning day in the chicken coop

Now I'm a new chicken mum and I've had my little backyard flock for just over a month now, before this I was spending a lot of time learning about chickens, googling anything I thought I could possibly wish to know about them.... so here I was thinking I knew pretty much all the basic standard...

Normal growth for 6 week silkie?

This is my 6 week old silkie, she doesn't look like any photos I've seen of other silkies around the same age... As if she's not really feathering up. She just looks like a big floofy baby. What does everyone reckon?

The dreaded question... Pullets or roos

I've got a mixed flock so I have nothing to compare each bird to so I turn to you guys to ask the dreaded question of sex... Both these birds are extremely docile, lap chickens and will happily cuddle. A fair amount of chest bumping happens in the afternoon but its never more than a quick bump...

    Silkie very sick, help please

I've got a 4 week old silkie that has always had a bit of a tilt neck and been slower, initially gave her vit E which seemed to help along with not stressing her out. She could eat and drink fine so moved to just giving all of them a multi vit in their water. She's been slowly declineing again...
